West Drayton kitchens
The buildings and streets around West Drayton
Booking vanity tops in West Drayton without a site visit is how people end up with a worktop that fits the drawing and not the wall. 1930s semis extended at the back into kitchen-diners with bifolds, plus a wave of new-build apartments near the station where owners are upgrading developer-fitted kitchens within the existing layout. The point of the visit is that you stop guessing and get a number you can hold us to.
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. What that does to a vanity is push the whole job into a narrow depth, because a bathroom takes the same stone as a kitchen in about two thirds of the width. We seat the basin. Your plumber connects it.
The consumer unit and the meter tails often sit in a cupboard in the corner of the kitchen, and that cupboard has to stay reachable whatever goes in around it. Where the bathroom has been taken over a rear addition the room gains length rather than width, so a longer vanity becomes possible and a deeper one still does not. A pod bathroom inside a shell has walls built last week.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s semi, postwar house, village green older stock and Elizabeth line new-build. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Bathroom worktops and vanity tops, in short
- Standard vanity depths are far narrower than a kitchen run, so most tops come out of offcut stock.
- Undermount basins are bonded and the aperture is polished, because the cut edge is visible from above.
- Tap holes are drilled to the tap you have actually bought, not to a standard spacing.
- We seat and seal the basin. A plumber connects the water and waste.

The place
Why West Drayton is its own job
Half of quoting a kitchen in West Drayton is understanding the approach to it, which is why the survey is done in person. The station area is clogged with commuter parking and the level crossing. The village streets have drives, but the new developments are built on narrow shared surfaces with limited waiting. New-build flats here come with thin compact laminate already fitted, so the upgrade usually means a new sink and tap as well as new tops. We would rather tell you about that before you pay a deposit than explain it afterwards.
The work
What bathroom worktops involves
An undermount basin is bonded from underneath and the cut edge of the aperture is polished, because that edge is in view every time the basin is used. A plumber connects the tap, trap and waste afterwards, so the visit is booked to land between their first and second fix. You end up with a bathroom surface in the same stone as the rest of the house, cut for the basin you chose rather than for a standard one.
What makes a vanity awkward is the width, since the length is rarely the problem and everything has to happen across the depth. Where the tap is wall-mounted there are no holes at all, and the top gets back the depth a deck-mounted tap base would have taken. The original bathroom here is small and hard against two walls, so the top is scribed at both ends and there is no tolerance left in between. The aperture is polished because you look into it.

The money
What it costs in West Drayton
Ordering the bathroom with the kitchen comes cheaper than ordering it afterwards, because it shares the template visit, the slab and the fitting day. Two facing runs mean two sets of edges and two scribes in a small span, which is why a compact galley rarely prices as cheaply as its area suggests. Material is £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, with the batch and the slab size sitting behind that variation, and the workshop time quoted apart from it. You see what the window board and the shelving cost separately.

The carry, and what it rules out
Where a marked loading box sits on the red route the stop is legal but timed, so the unload runs as one movement with every hand on it. Where the van cannot wait, the top, the shelves and the adhesive all come in on the first trip and the van goes. A bathroom slot is booked short and kept short.

West Drayton in the housing figures
Around West Drayton, the Victorian and Edwardian stock that defines most of London is largely absent, and with it most of the out-of-square work. Units hung off the wall transfer everything into it, so what that wall is built from becomes the first question asked. No aperture is cut on the strength of an average.

What West Drayton asks for
Nothing about the houses on this patch predicts how much of this we do, because it is not housing work. What the houses ask for is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop templating. The stone, the machining and the crew are the same.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Questions we get asked in West Drayton
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is West Drayton far enough out to be a problem for you?
Yes. West Drayton is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are UB7. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hillingdon. A bus lane along the frontage brings its own hours with it, and stopping in one is enforced the same way the red route is. A vanity fit is a short visit with one or two pieces in it, so the van stands only for as long as it takes to walk them in. Everything the bathroom needs comes off the van at once. The measuring and the fitting are both done at the property, so there is nothing to visit or collect.
Is there anything about West Drayton buildings that catches bathroom worktops out?
A radiator sits under the rear window on the outside wall, and moving it is plumbing that belongs before the template rather than after it. The original bathroom in these houses is the small room over the hall, and a vanity in it is short, shallow and hard against a wall at each end, so both ends are scribed and there is no tolerance left between them. The window over the basin is the one the top answers to. Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. Bathrooms carry the same problems in a smaller room, and a smaller room leaves a vanity nowhere to absorb them. Half-tiled walls leave a line the top has to meet.
What do you check about the route into a West Drayton property?
A level threshold with hard standing outside it is the one arrangement where a full run goes in without a single re-grip. A vanity is the one piece of stone that route will not usually defeat, because a top cut to a standard unit depth weighs what one person can manage. Long thin shelves break on the turn, not on the road. The van is not staying on a main road for the day, so once the stone is off it goes and parks properly somewhere else. A bathroom booked on its own rarely fills a day, so it can be put into whichever part of the day the street is easiest. A cloakroom top is a single armful off the tail lift.
Is West Drayton really a bathroom worktops area?
Not especially, and pretending otherwise would be simple enough. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop templating. It is a fact about the local housing rather than about the work. The job is quoted, cut and fitted the same way wherever on the patch it lands. Buyers upgrading before handover work to a choices deadline set by the sales office rather than by the build programme. Work of that kind brings en-suites with it, and an en-suite vanity is a smaller piece again carrying exactly the same four operations. An en-suite is the same four operations at a smaller size. Developer-fitted kitchens come with thin cam-lock carcasses, which are fine under laminate and want bracing before stone goes on them. Where several bathrooms are done in one building the tops come off one slab run, because two greys from two batches sit badly on adjoining floors. One tap across a building means one drilling setup.
Why do two West Drayton kitchens the same size price differently?
The walkway between the two runs is fixed by the units either side, so any overhang added to one worktop comes straight off the space somebody has to stand in. That shape decides what is left on the slab when the kitchen has been cut, and what is left on the slab is where most vanity tops come from. A cloakroom top is the easiest piece on any nesting plan. Supply-only material is £110 to £550 per square metre, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted separately rather than rolled in.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. A vanity has no depth to lose, so where a kitchen run would take a ten millimetre scribe without noticing, a shallow top cannot spare it. A cloakroom under a stair slope limits the tap before the top. Settle the tiling height and the basin model first, and let us know whether the unit is standing on the floor or hanging off the wall. Because the money comes out of a household rather than a maintenance budget, phasing is common: tops now, island or splashbacks later, quoted so the second visit still matches the first. Who is paying decides the material here more than anywhere else, because a vanity is small enough that an expensive stone stops being an expensive decision. A void week is the easiest slot for a bathroom.
Can a West Drayton worktop be done in one piece?
An island often runs in one piece where a wall run cannot. A join is glued and clamped flush on the day, so it is fixed rather than something to be undone. Veining carries through a join where both pieces come off the same slab, which is decided at nesting. Both runs are in view at the same time, so the two pieces are taken off the same area of slab and the veining is set to run the same way on each side. A bathroom ordered with the kitchen is taken from the same slab run, so the two rooms match rather than nearly match. Yield is why a vanity in a rare stone is still affordable.
What if a piece cracks while it is being carried in?
Damage found on the bench never leaves the workshop, and damage on the carry is remade under the same cover. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door. Door frames and the stair route are protected too, since most contact happens on the way in. The tail lift is still the pinch point, because the piece has to be walked off it onto the trolley while it is sitting at chest height. The exception is a double vanity, which is a kitchen length in bathroom width and behaves like a worktop from the tail lift onwards. The window board is the piece that catches a door frame.
Is templating a separate visit from fitting?
The same firm templates and fits. Nobody else is brought in to install. The template produces a drawing, and the workshop cuts to that drawing once you agree it. On the fitting day floors and door frames are protected, joins clamped flush, sink and hob sealed. A side passage and a back door mean the stone rarely has to come through the house, which changes the job more than most people expect. A vanity top is where all of that turns up in miniature, with the basin, the tap holes and a splash return crowded into a few hundred millimetres of stone. A bathroom top is drawn from the fitted unit, never from a plan.
Can the price change after templating?
Ask for the lines rather than the total. One number for a kitchen tells you nothing you can check. Plumbing, gas and electrical work are not in the figure, because we do not do them. No installed price per square metre is published, because it is not a real number. Sill height gets settled with the template on site, because it is one of the few dimensions nobody has measured before we arrive. The boxed soil stack in the corner is the usual version of it upstairs, and a top that notches round one loses depth exactly where the basin wanted it. What is behind the plaster decides how a vanity is fixed.

We recently had the Arctic Starburst worktop installed by Worktop WorX and it looks amazing. The subtle sparkle really catches the light and gives the kitchen a clean, modern feel. The Arctic Starburst surface feels high quality, durable, and is easy to keep clean. The finish and installation from Worktop WorX were spot on. Really happy with the result and would definitely recommend both Arctic Starburst and Worktop WorX to anyone upgrading their kitchen.
