Loading concessions differ from one zone to the next rather than following a single national rule, so what applied on the last job proves nothing about this one. A boiling tap needs a hole of its own and a cupboard below for the tank, so the units change too. If the sink or hob changes after the template, the drawing changes first and nothing is cut meanwhile. A hob cut-out and the floor penetration feeding it have to land over the same cabinet, and where they do not it is the stone that gets redrawn rather than the pipework. The return between the high counter and the low shelf never nests neatly, and it is what decides how much slab the desk swallows. Where the front curves, the shelf below it curves with it.

Material is quoted supply only and templating, fabrication and fitting sit on their own lines, so it is visible which part is stone and which is labour. Two kitchens the same length can be far apart, because material, edge and cut-outs move independently of size. Sill height gets settled with the template on site, because it is one of the few dimensions nobody has measured before we arrive. Where the floor falls away across a lobby the carcass is packed level first, because the top cannot correct anything sitting under it. A packer belongs under the joinery, never under the counter.
