Fitzrovia kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Units are often only 500mm deep, so a standard 600mm stone top overhangs at the front and the doors need checking against it. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. The route is walked before the first lift.
Mostly apartments, many carved out of former commercial floors, which gives an open-plan kitchen along one wall of a large room at 3-4m and sometimes a genuine island where the floorplate allows.
The older above-shop flats are the opposite, tiny and tucked behind a hall with services in the worst possible corner. In the converted commercial buildings a full-length slab usually goes up in the goods lift, so check it before templating instead of designing in joins you do not need. The converted commercial buildings have goods lifts worth booking, while the Georgian above-shop flats have none at all. Congestion Charge zone, Monday to Saturday controlled parking, delivery restrictions on the busier streets, and buildings that open straight onto the pavement with no forecourt.
The structure below is commercial, so the floor is often timber over a shop ceiling and the load path under an island is worth thinking about. Rear or shared-path access is often the only way to bring a long piece in without turning it in the hall. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
The buildings themselves are mostly Georgian terrace above retail, warehouse and office conversion, 1930s block and modern apartment. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our central and north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop fabrication and worktop design & quotation behind it.

Getting stone into the room
Piece length is set by the internal diagonal of the lift car, not by the length of the slab. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. That is what the morning is planned around.

Getting stone into a Fitzrovia kitchen
Congestion Charge zone, Monday to Saturday controlled parking, delivery restrictions on the busier streets, and buildings that open straight onto the pavement with no forecourt. The converted commercial buildings have goods lifts worth booking, while the Georgian above-shop flats have none at all.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Fitzrovia
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Fitzrovia on your patch?
Yes. Fitzrovia is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W1T, W1W. It is worked on our central and north London run, along with the rest of Camden. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop installation in Fitzrovia be any different from anywhere else?
The structure below is commercial, so the floor is often timber over a shop ceiling and the load path under an island is worth thinking about. Rear or shared-path access is often the only way to bring a long piece in without turning it in the hall. The slow parts are slow for a reason. In the converted commercial buildings a full-length slab usually goes up in the goods lift, so check it before templating instead of designing in joins you do not need.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Fitzrovia?
Congestion Charge zone, Monday to Saturday controlled parking, delivery restrictions on the busier streets, and buildings that open straight onto the pavement with no forecourt. The converted commercial buildings have goods lifts worth booking, while the Georgian above-shop flats have none at all. A car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a three-metre worktop however it is stood, and there is no trimming it on the landing. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is Fitzrovia mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop design & quotation. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Fitzrovia?
A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. It is the slow part of the day and it should be. Unlock any rear or shared path gate and clear both the hall and the back approach so we can choose the better route on the day. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
