Euston kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

post-war block1930s mansion blockGeorgian survivor terracemodern apartment

Kitchens in this stock are compact and reasonably square, which makes the fixed lines a larger share of the total than the material is. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.

Post-war blocks here have concrete walls, so you are drilling rather than screwing for splashback and upstand fixings and need the right kit on the first visit. Flats above and behind a major transport corridor, with kitchens fixed in position at 2.4-3m of run in a closed room. Replacement work dominates because anything structural is limited by the block's concrete frame.

Walls are dense in-situ concrete or blockwork with a thin skim, which will not be chased back and will not take a plasterboard fixing. The stairwell half-landing is usually the tightest point on the whole route and it dictates the maximum piece. The slow parts are slow for a reason.

The buildings themselves are mostly post-war block, 1930s mansion block, Georgian survivor terrace and modern apartment. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our central and north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here

It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into the room

Bounded by the Euston Road red route with no stopping, and the side streets are Monday to Saturday CPZ with permanent construction traffic on top. Most drops involve a communal entry door, a lobby, then either a small lift or two flights of stairs.

Stone goes up on edge, and it is the half-landing turn rather than the flight itself that sets the maximum piece. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.

True everywhere, stated once

Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.

Getting stone into a Euston kitchen

Bounded by the Euston Road red route with no stopping, and the side streets are Monday to Saturday CPZ with permanent construction traffic on top. Most drops involve a communal entry door, a lobby, then either a small lift or two flights of stairs.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in Euston

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Is Euston on your patch?

Yes. Euston is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW1. It is worked on our central and north London run, along with the rest of Camden. A red route means no stopping, and no stopping means exactly that, so the stone comes in from a side street or from a bay behind the property. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Why would worktop installation in Euston be any different from anywhere else?

The kitchen is a small square room off a narrow entrance lobby, and the turn out of that lobby is the real limit on piece length. Deck access or a single narrow staircase with tight half-landings means long pieces get walked up on edge, and the landing turn is checked before we commit. That is the shape of the day. Post-war blocks here have concrete walls, so you are drilling rather than screwing for splashback and upstand fixings and need the right kit on the first visit.

How would you get a worktop into a property in Euston?

Bounded by the Euston Road red route with no stopping, and the side streets are Monday to Saturday CPZ with permanent construction traffic on top. Most drops involve a communal entry door, a lobby, then either a small lift or two flights of stairs. Stone goes up on edge, and it is the half-landing turn rather than the flight itself that sets the maximum piece. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.

Do you do much worktop installation around Euston?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave. Landlord work is scheduled around void periods, so the whole thing is a fixed window and the template date matters as much as the fitting date. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly.

What moves the number on a quote around here?

Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What needs to be ready before you come to Euston?

Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. It is the slow part of the day and it should be. Reserve a space as close to the block entrance as possible and clear the landing and stairs of prams, bikes and stored items. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. One visit, our own installers.
