Worktop templating in Monument

Yes. Monument is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are EC3R. It is worked on our the City run, along with the rest of the Square Mile. A free-parking street with cars both sides can still leave the van forty metres away, and that distance is carry, not driving. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. Two hours is the realistic figure. These kitchens are full of boxed soil stacks, gas risers and heating pipework, and the boxing usually stops short of the ceiling. Mansion-block kitchens usually have a serviced riser or boxed pipework somewhere in the run, and the boxing is rarely the same depth from one end to the other, so the template takes the depth at worktop height at several points rather than one reading. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. The gradient on the lanes down to the river means a loaded trolley will run away from you - chock it or carry it, do not push it downhill.

The lanes running down toward the river between Eastcheap and Lower Thames Street are narrow, one-way and steeply graded in places, and several are pedestrian-only during the working day. Building entrances are often a single street door with a straight stair to the upper floors, no lift, and no room at all to set a slab down while you rest. Communal stairs get boarded and the handrail padded, and we walk the route with a tape before the first piece leaves the van. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. The template records it along with everything else.

Two runs meeting at an internal corner is the most common shape we fit, and the corner is where the decisions are. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Plotted, not estimated. Boxing and riser casings built, cased and finished to their final surface, units fixed and levelled, and building access, lift booking and porter arrangements agreed so both the template visit and the later fit can run. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. No stone is cut from a plan.
