Thamesmead kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Dense concrete and blockwork mean the wall cannot be chased back or packed out, so the stone carries the scribe. Every run, cut-out, edge and join is priced on its own line, so the effect of the building is visible rather than absorbed. Itemised, and nothing payable until we template.
The original estate housing has small planned kitchens with concrete or dense blockwork walls and standard 600mm units in a single or double run; the later brick-built housing association terraces are slightly more generous but still galley. Islands are rare because the rooms were never sized for them.
Fixing into precast concrete needs the right anchors and serious dust control, nothing here takes a plasterboard fixing.
Many have been extended at the rear since being sold, so the kitchen is half original and half newer with a floor junction between the two. Templating, fabrication and fitting are the same day's work whether the kitchen is five square metres or eight, so on a small kitchen they are a larger share of the total, and one slab covers the lot, which makes the material band the main lever you actually control. You see it before you commit to anything.
On these streets the housing is 1960s-70s system-built concrete estate, deck-access maisonette, 1980s housing association terrace and 2010s regeneration block. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop design and quotation, in short
- Material is £110–£550/m² supply. That is the slab only.
- Templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted as their own lines.
- No installed price per square metre is published, because it is not a real number.
- Nothing is payable until we template.
Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Raised pedestrian decks, podium levels and garage undercrofts mean the front door is often nowhere near where the van can park, and some blocks are reached only by a walkway or a small lift.
Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Tell us at enquiry stage and it is priced properly, because a crew stood waiting is the most expensive thing on any job. You are told before you commit to a date.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop replacement, worktop templating and worktop splashbacks & upstands come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

Getting stone into a Thamesmead kitchen
Raised pedestrian decks, podium levels and garage undercrofts mean the front door is often nowhere near where the van can park, and some blocks are reached only by a walkway or a small lift.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop design & quotation in Thamesmead
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Thamesmead on your patch?
Yes. Thamesmead is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE28, SE2. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Greenwich. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. Where a bay suspension or a permit is needed, that is a real cost and it goes on the quote instead of appearing later. It is one line among the others, and it is honest. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop design & quotation in Thamesmead be any different from anywhere else?
Many have been extended at the rear since being sold, so the kitchen is half original and half newer with a floor junction between the two. The fixed lines do not shrink with the room, so on a small kitchen they are a larger share of the total than the stone. Priced from the building, not from a rate card. Fixing into precast concrete needs the right anchors and serious dust control, nothing here takes a plasterboard fixing.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Thamesmead?
Raised pedestrian decks, podium levels and garage undercrofts mean the front door is often nowhere near where the van can park, and some blocks are reached only by a walkway or a small lift. Where the lift will not take the longest run we design a join in rather than gamble, because a piece that will not go up has to go back on the van. That is why the fitting line on a quote reflects manpower and time rather than square metres. Nothing about it gets estimated after the fact.
Is Thamesmead really a worktop design & quotation area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop templating and worktop splashbacks & upstands. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Landlord work is scheduled around void periods, so the whole thing is a fixed window and the template date matters as much as the fitting date. That changes what the quote should be compared against, because the shape of the job is not the same as a single family kitchen. Itemised, so it can be compared honestly. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. Comparing quotes only works when they itemise the same things, and this is where the differences usually hide. Material is the slab only, and it says so.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. It is the shape rather than the square metreage that moves the number, which is why two kitchens the same size quote differently. No installed rate per square metre, because it is not a real number. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Thamesmead?
A lightweight stud partition will not carry a breakfast bar or a peninsula end, and stone finds that out faster than laminate ever did. It is fabrication time rather than material, so it appears on the fabrication line and not in the square metre figure. Photographs are worth more than a plan here. Send the run lengths plus a photo of every corner of the kitchen so we can spot boxed ducts, and tell us whether the sink is staying in the same position. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The quote is written so it can be read by whoever is paying rather than only by whoever is standing in the kitchen. Nothing payable until template.
