Aldersbrook kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
The standard job is glazing over that side return to widen the kitchen by about a metre, which gives a 3.5m run against the flank wall and a narrow island or table opposite.
That hallway turn into the rear addition is the constraint on nearly every Aldersbrook house, and it decides where the joint goes before anything else does. A tightly uniform Edwardian estate facing Wanstead Flats, so the houses share one floor plan and the kitchen sits in the original rear addition with a narrow side return alongside.
A bay-fronted terrace has a long hall running past the stairs to the kitchen, so the hall turn caps the piece length before the run length does. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to Edwardian bay-fronted terrace and Edwardian semi. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The shape of the run
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat.

Getting stone into the room
Straight terraced streets with permit parking and no driveways, and the side returns are enclosed once glazed, so slabs go in through the house, front door, hall, and a right turn at the back.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop templating comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into a Aldersbrook kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Aldersbrook
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Aldersbrook, or just list it?
Yes. Aldersbrook is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E12. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Redbridge. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Aldersbrook?
A bay-fronted terrace has a long hall running past the stairs to the kitchen, so the hall turn caps the piece length before the run length does. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. The slow parts are slow for a reason. That hallway turn into the rear addition is the constraint on nearly every Aldersbrook house, and it decides where the joint goes before anything else does.
Is access a problem in Aldersbrook?
Straight terraced streets with permit parking and no driveways, and the side returns are enclosed once glazed, so slabs go in through the house, front door, hall, and a right turn at the back. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.
Do you do much worktop installation around Aldersbrook?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop templating. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional.
What decides the price of a worktop in Aldersbrook?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
The stone carries the scribe because the wall cannot be persuaded, so back edges are cut oversize and eased in rather than dropped straight down. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
