Worktop templating in Hatch End
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Hatch End kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
Larger detached houses with deep rear gardens where full-width extensions and orangery-style kitchens are common, giving 4m runs plus a substantial island, and a good number of purpose-built apartment blocks around the station where kitchens are compact and fixed. The house jobs usually include a utility and a separate boot room top.
Suburban roads with wide drives and easy loading, but the newer apartment blocks near the station have gated car parks, barriers and lifts that must be booked, and the railway bridge constrains larger vehicles on some approaches.
Edwardian terraces are wider and taller than the Victorian houses next to them, so the kitchen usually takes a full-width rear room rather than a narrow outrigger. The laser plots the bow along the back of the run, which is why a tape reading taken beforehand never matches. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s detached and semi, Arts and Crafts influenced houses and 1990s-2000s apartment block. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. Two hours is the realistic figure.

The building, and what it does to the job
Extension kitchens with structural glazing put the run against a wall of glass, so support and edge detail at the glazing line matters more than the material choice.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop installation, worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

Questions
Worktop templating in Hatch End
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Hatch End, or just list it?
Yes. Hatch End is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA5. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. Two hours is the realistic figure. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop templating in Hatch End?
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. Victorian party walls and chimney-breast returns bow along their length, so the template plots the real line rather than assuming a straight one - the laser picks up points every few hundred millimetres down the back of the run and the drawing carries that curve through to the saw. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Extension kitchens with structural glazing put the run against a wall of glass, so support and edge detail at the glazing line matters more than the material choice.
Is access a problem in Hatch End?
Suburban roads with wide drives and easy loading, but the newer apartment blocks near the station have gated car parks, barriers and lifts that must be booked, and the railway bridge constrains larger vehicles on some approaches. Sign-in at the gate, a permit on the dash and a named contact are usually wanted before anything comes off the van. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Hatch End really a worktop templating area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop installation, worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What decides the price of a worktop in Hatch End?
If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. Plotted, not estimated. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Appliances on site, not on order.
