Knightsbridge kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Thick external walls, deep window reveals and boxed risers mean the runs are templated to what is there rather than to a rectangle. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. One visit, our own installers.
The show kitchen is handleless with a large island and often a full-height stone splashback; the prep kitchen is a plain 3m run in the same material to keep continuity.
Nothing gets cut on site in these buildings, so the template must be dimensionally exact including appliance clearances - one wrong cut-out means a full replacement slab, not a rework. Buildings run 24-hour security and a strict delivery protocol - vehicle booked in, ID for every fitter, protection down through the lobby and lift, and noisy works restricted to a defined window. Some buildings insist all cutting happens off site with zero exceptions. Prime apartment stock with a main kitchen for show and a separate staff or prep kitchen behind it, both needing stone.
Permitted works hours are commonly weekdays with a late start and an early finish, so a one-day fit is planned around the porter and the lift. This is the most managed day we do. That is the shape of the day.
What turns up on the job sheets is red-brick mansion block, prime new-build apartment and Victorian townhouse. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our central London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
mansion blocks and purpose-built flats
The shape of the run
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. The join is the last thing finished.

What gets asked for here
Second or third on the list around here, after worktop design & quotation. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.
mansion blocks and purpose-built flats
The building, and what it does to the job
The block's permitted works hours and the booked goods lift slot, which set a hard stop on the day whatever stage we are at.

Getting stone into a Knightsbridge kitchen
Buildings run 24-hour security and a strict delivery protocol - vehicle booked in, ID for every fitter, protection down through the lobby and lift, and noisy works restricted to a defined window. Some buildings insist all cutting happens off site with zero exceptions.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.
central London patch
Knightsbridge is covered on our central London run, along with the rest of Westminster.
We come to you
Templated in your kitchen, cut in our workshop, fitted by our own installers.
Access told straight
If the route forces an extra join, you hear that at quote stage, not on the day.
Questions
Worktop installation in Knightsbridge
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Knightsbridge on your patch?
Yes. Knightsbridge is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW1X. It is worked on our central London run, along with the rest of Westminster. Unrestricted kerbside is straightforward as long as the space in front of the property is actually clear when the van arrives. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop installation in Knightsbridge be any different from anywhere else?
The lift is a small passenger car with a gate, and the alternative is a stone stair winding round the shaft with a turn at every half-landing. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Nothing gets cut on site in these buildings, so the template must be dimensionally exact including appliance clearances - one wrong cut-out means a full replacement slab, not a rework.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Knightsbridge?
Buildings run 24-hour security and a strict delivery protocol - vehicle booked in, ID for every fitter, protection down through the lobby and lift, and noisy works restricted to a defined window. Some buildings insist all cutting happens off site with zero exceptions. A car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a three-metre worktop however it is stood, and there is no trimming it on the landing. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.
Is worktop installation common in Knightsbridge?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. The prep list is not optional. A worktop replacement between tenancies is a single-day job by design, because the flat is not earning while it is empty. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Knightsbridge?
Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Have the works booking confirmed with the managing agent or porter in advance, with the lift slot and any parking permit or bay suspension in place. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Protection goes down first.
