Bell Green kitchens
The kitchens we meet in Bell Green
The questions that decide worktop fabrication in Bell Green are dull ones about doorways, corners and what the floor is doing, and they are asked early for good reason. Interwar semis and postwar terraces around the retail park; kitchens are rear rooms with a side door, usually opened into the dining room to give an L of about 3m plus a short return. The drawing we work from is agreed with you first, so no one in Bell Green finds out on fitting day that something was assumed.
Crittall windows were swapped for plastic ones in openings that were made good rather than rebuilt, which leaves reveals that are neither straight nor equal. Pieces are cut, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded onto a van. Cut-outs are set out from the units, not the appliance box.
These went up as handed pairs, so in one house of the two the kitchen sits against the party wall and in the other it takes the alley side, and only one of them has an outside wall to work with. Where a full length can come down the side and in at the back, the nest follows the slab instead of the building. The template carries the building into the workshop.
Around here the stock is 1930s semi, postwar estate, 1970s terrace and 2000s infill. They fail in different places, which is why the survey looks at different things.
