Cowley kitchens
The kitchens we meet in Cowley
We turn down very few worktop jobs in Cowley, but we do insist on seeing the kitchen first, and the reason for that is in the rooms themselves. Semis where the kitchen has been knocked into the dining room to make one 5m L with a peninsula facing the garden, and the utility pushed out into what used to be the outhouse or lean-to. You do not need to know which one you have before you call. We work that out on the survey.
The boiler has usually been moved into the kitchen at some point, with its flue through the outer leaf and its pipework surface run to the nearest corner. Gloss level is the decision nobody notices making, because a mirror face under a row of downlights throws hard bright spots the length of the run. Pick the surface for the cooking rather than for the photograph.
Original quarry-tiled floors sit lower than a later screed, so a run crossing that junction needs the units packed to one level. These kitchens are usually knocked through to the dining room, so the surface is read from two sides at once and the figure has to carry across the pieces rather than restart at every join. A tall room carries a thick edge; a low one does not.
What we find behind the front doors here is 1930s semi, postwar house, canalside cottage and recent infill. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
