Freezywater kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

1930s semipost-war semi1980s cul-de-sac house

These kitchens have usually been retiled twice and knocked through once, and both of those leave marks the worktop has to deal with. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Units fitted, fixed and level first.

Typical spec is a 3m run plus a separate 1.5m utility top in the same material.

The A10 and Bullsmoor Lane are fast roads with no stopping, so approach from the residential side. Straightforward - driveways, dropped kerbs and low front walls. Semis on generous plots near Bullsmoor Lane, most with a utility or a lean-to off the back of the kitchen, so the main run stays short and the messy stuff moves next door. Utility tops here almost always need a cut-out for a plumbed-in washer and a butler sink at a different height to the main kitchen - confirm the two heights separately at template.

Original quarry-tiled floors sit lower than a later screed, so a run crossing that junction needs the units packed to one level. Where the room has been knocked through to the dining room or opened into a later extension, the two floors rarely sit at the same level and the whole opening has to be shot across from one datum. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.

On these streets the housing is 1930s semi, post-war semi and 1980s cul-de-sac house. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.

True everywhere

Worktop templating, in short

  • Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
  • Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
  • Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
  • A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.

Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

1930s and inter-war semis

What gets asked for here

It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

1930s and inter-war semis

The building, and what it does to the job

Walls that bow along their length are the normal condition rather than the exception, and a straight-cut back edge will show a shadow gap at one end and touch at the other. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. That is why the visit takes two or three hours.

Getting stone into a Freezywater kitchen

Straightforward - driveways, dropped kerbs and low front walls. The A10 and Bullsmoor Lane are fast roads with no stopping, so approach from the residential side.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

3–7 working days

From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions

Worktop templating in Freezywater

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you actually work in Freezywater, or just list it?

Yes. Freezywater is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are EN3. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Enfield. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

What is different about worktop templating in Freezywater?

Original quarry-tiled floors sit lower than a later screed, so a run crossing that junction needs the units packed to one level. The sill height over the sink is settled on site, because there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Utility tops here almost always need a cut-out for a plumbed-in washer and a butler sink at a different height to the main kitchen - confirm the two heights separately at template.

Is access a problem in Freezywater?

Straightforward - driveways, dropped kerbs and low front walls. The A10 and Bullsmoor Lane are fast roads with no stopping, so approach from the residential side. Where the van stands level with the front of the house a piece gets handled twice instead of five times, and stone breaks on handling rather than on the road. The templater measures that route on the same visit, so the drawing leaves site already knowing the maximum piece. That is part of what the visit is for.

Is worktop templating common in Freezywater?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Units fitted, fixed and level first.

What decides the price of a worktop in Freezywater?

A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What do I need to sort out first?

A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. All base units in, including anything standing on the later extension slab, walls skimmed to final thickness, and the sink, tap and hob delivered so cut-outs and tap centres are set from the actual items. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
