An old stone top is heavier coming out than the new one is going in, and leaves in sections. Where parking runs down both sides the road is left as a single lane, and a van standing in it has to be somewhere it does not stop a bin lorry. Where the clock is running the frame is levelled and the steel is in before the top ever leaves the tail lift. A suspension is booked for the fitting day, not the delivery hour.

Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door. A remade piece is cut from the same slab run wherever the slab allows, because a replacement from another batch will not match across a join. Door frames and the stair route are protected too, since most contact happens on the way in. The hall is the only way in and out for whoever lives there, so it is cleared and then kept clear for as long as pieces are moving. The steel and the corbels travel that same route and go in first, so a bar is three separate carries into one room rather than a single delivery. The route is measured to the deepest part of the piece.
