Worktop installation in Harrow Garden Village
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Harrow Garden Village kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Solid brick with a sand and cement render is firm to work against and reliably out of plumb across the length of a run. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. One visit, our own installers.
Finished kitchens tend to be open-plan with a 4m run and a large island, plus a utility taking the old kitchen doorway.
Consistently built interwar semis on curved roads and closes, mostly with the kitchen at the rear next to a dining room and a distinctive pattern of full-width rear extensions across two thirds of the plot.
Solid brick with a render coat is firm to work against and out of plumb, so the scribe at worktop height is different from the one at plinth level. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
The mix here is 1930s Nash-built semi, 1930s detached and post-war infill. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Full-width extensions here mean the run often exceeds a single slab length, so the joint position needs agreeing with the customer at design stage rather than on fitting day.

What gets asked for here
The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication.

Getting stone into the room
Quiet estate roads with wide verges, dropped kerbs and generous driveways, some of the easiest access in Harrow. Side alleys are usually clear because the estate was built with a proper gap between the pairs.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Harrow Garden Village
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Harrow Garden Village?
Yes. Harrow Garden Village is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA2, HA5. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Harrow Garden Village change how worktop installation works?
Houses of this period came with generous garages and utility rooms, so a second short run of stone is often part of the same job. The carry is the easy part; the plaster around the old breast and the packing over a moved floor are not. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Full-width extensions here mean the run often exceeds a single slab length, so the joint position needs agreeing with the customer at design stage rather than on fitting day.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Harrow Garden Village?
Quiet estate roads with wide verges, dropped kerbs and generous driveways, some of the easiest access in Harrow. Side alleys are usually clear because the estate was built with a proper gap between the pairs. Garden routes carry their own hazards: a drain cover, a step up to a patio, wet decking, or a lawn that will not take a loaded trolley. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Harrow Garden Village mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
Why do two Harrow Garden Village kitchens the same size price differently?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Alcove pieces get cut oversize on both scribe edges, with the true wall angles carried on the template drawing rather than assumed. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. It is the slow part of the day and it should be. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
