The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Little Heath
The scullery and the kitchen were knocked into one at some point, and the stub of the old dividing wall is still there under the plaster. Levelling is done under the units and not under the stone, so anything out is corrected before a piece is lifted in. The join is polished flat before we call it done.
Quiet residential streets, most with a dropped kerb and off-street space, but the roads feeding onto the A12 and Whalebone Lane get busy and are no place to leave a van blocking traffic.
An inter-war terrace is wider than a Victorian one and shallower than a semi, so the kitchen is a compact square room rather than a galley. That leaves a ragged band right where the upstand has to sit, which is fine for a 100mm upstand that covers it, but a full-height splashback needs the wall made good first or it will rock on the high spots. A chimney breast breaks the run and the panels follow it.
The housing behind these kitchens is 1930s semi, inter-war terrace and post-war infill. What is behind the plaster is different in each, and it matters at fixing.
There is nothing to visit in Little Heath. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
