Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. Late changes are priced rather than absorbed quietly.

Variation past what packing can take up has to be corrected in the carcasses before we cut, because the template records the units as they stand. Levelling belongs in the carcasses, on their own legs and packers. Units have to be fixed down as well as levelled. A loose carcass moves under stone. Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. The workshop cuts to the plotted line rather than to a nominal dimension, which is why a scribe edge leaves the bench deliberately oversize. Geometry first, then the saw.

A boiling tap needs a hole of its own and a cupboard below for the tank, so the units change too. Nothing is cut out in the kitchen. Cutting a bowl on site is how worktops get cracked. If the sink or hob changes after the template, the drawing changes first and nothing is cut meanwhile. A full-depth tall unit projects past the worktop line, and the run has to be scribed against its side panel instead of carrying on past it. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. Undersides are polished where the piece is seen from below.

They read strongly across a dark stone and are nearly invisible on a pale one, so look before deciding. They are cut with a fall towards the bowl, which is why they cannot be added on site later. Walls and ceilings carry decades of thick emulsion over artex, and neither surface tells you where the true line is. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Joins over gables, always.

Chips at an edge or a corner are the usual form, because that is where stone is least supported. A remade piece is cut from the same slab run wherever the slab allows, because a replacement from another batch will not match across a join. Suction lifters need a clean dry face to hold, so in the wet the pads come off and the piece goes back to being carried on webbing by hand.
