The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Soho
The kitchen normally sits in the back addition or a later side return, which puts the run against the oldest and least straight wall in the building. Levelling is done under the units and not under the stone, so anything out is corrected before a piece is lifted in. Dust extraction indoors, or the cut happens outside.
Night-time economy means the working window is genuinely 8am to lunchtime.
A basement is often reached by its own door under the front steps, and that door is smaller than anything else on the route. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
The building types here are 18th-century walk-up house, flat above restaurant and warehouse-style conversion. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
Access. The hardest access in the borough. No parking at all, pedestrianised sections, servicing windows that clash with restaurant deliveries, and 18th-century houses with 700mm doors and steep dogleg stairs with winders and no landing.
There is nothing to visit in Soho. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
