Stone up a wall is heavier than tile and bonded rather than hung, so the wall has to be sound. Where the kitchen is on the entrance level, the piece comes off the deck and turns straight in without going up or down at all. The notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius, because a square internal corner there is where a top fails. The saw follows the template, never the plan.

A seal is not waterproofing. It only buys time to wipe a spill up. Topping a seal up is a wipe-on job with a cloth. Quartz carries resin, so a hot pan wants a trivet, while granite and sintered stone will take one without complaint. A service duct runs between the kitchen and the bathroom stacked above it, and access to that duct stays open whatever the layout does. A back edge that has to follow a bowed panel wall comes off the saw to the template line rather than being trimmed against the wall. What leaves the bench is what fits the room.

Grooves are machined into the surface rather than applied to it, so there is nothing to come loose later. They are cut with a fall towards the bowl, which is why they cannot be added on site later. Internal partitions are dense block finished in a hard sand and cement plaster, which is unforgiving to drill and unforgiving to make good. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Yield is worked out against the run lengths the house allows.
