Worktop installation in Tollington
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Tollington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. One visit, our own installers.
That gives an L of 3.5-4m with a peninsula at the knock-through point rather than a central island.
Straight halls with a rear door make the carry manageable once the van is parked. The streets between Hornsey Road and Seven Sisters Road are narrow, one-way in places and permit-only, while the main roads either side carry buses with loading limits. Mid-sized Victorian terraces, many still whole houses, where the kitchen occupies the rear addition and the usual improvement is a knock-through to the dining room.
Deep original skirting is often left in behind the units, standing them off the wall, so the back edge of the stone is plotted where the carcasses actually sit. The day is planned backwards from the hall. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to Victorian terrace, Edwardian terrace, conversion flat and post-war block. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The building, and what it does to the job
A knock-through joins two rooms with different ceiling heights and wall finishes, so batch-match the slabs and set your level off the longer span rather than the shorter one.
The hallway turn and the door width, which cap the longest single piece we can physically get to the kitchen regardless of what the run measures.

The shape of the run
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop templating comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.
Access
Getting stone into a Tollington kitchen
The streets between Hornsey Road and Seven Sisters Road are narrow, one-way in places and permit-only, while the main roads either side carry buses with loading limits. Straight halls with a rear door make the carry manageable once the van is parked.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Tollington
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Tollington, or just list it?
Yes. Tollington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N4, N7. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Tollington?
A bay-fronted terrace has a long hall running past the stairs to the kitchen, so the hall turn caps the piece length before the run length does. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. The slow parts are slow for a reason. A knock-through joins two rooms with different ceiling heights and wall finishes, so batch-match the slabs and set your level off the longer span rather than the shorter one.
Is access a problem in Tollington?
The streets between Hornsey Road and Seven Sisters Road are narrow, one-way in places and permit-only, while the main roads either side carry buses with loading limits. Straight halls with a rear door make the carry manageable once the van is parked. A narrow entrance hall with a turn into the back of the house caps the longest piece we can physically get in, whatever the run itself measures. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. None of it is worked out on the doorstep. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Do you do much worktop installation around Tollington?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop templating. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where a single building holds several small kitchens, the work arrives as one job rather than four, and it should be cut off the same slab run so the batches genuinely match. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave. Batching several kitchens together is the one situation where buying a whole slab is cheaper per kitchen rather than more expensive. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
What decides the price of a worktop in Tollington?
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the laser plots the intermediate points. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. It is the slow part of the day and it should be. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
