Worktop installation in Hither Green
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Hither Green kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
The Corbett Estate is thousands of near-identical late-Victorian terraces: the original kitchen sits in the back addition, and by now most have a side-return or full-width rear extension turning it into a kitchen-diner with a 3.5m to 4.5m run and an island. Because the houses repeat, so do the layouts.
Repeating house types make it predictable, but those side passages are typically under 800mm — measure before assuming a slab goes round the back.
Wider halls make the carry noticeably easier, and that alone can remove a join that a narrower terrace would have forced into the run. The day is planned backwards from the hall. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to 1890s-1900s Corbett Estate terrace, Edwardian terrace and postwar infill. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly.
This is the job the local stock asks for first, ahead of worktop templating and worktop fabrication.
ex-local-authority flats and estates
The building, and what it does to the job
The hallway turn and the door width, which cap the longest single piece we can physically get to the kitchen regardless of what the run measures.

Getting stone into the room
Long straight residential streets with permit parking and no off-street spaces, but most houses have a side alley or shared passage to the rear which is often the better route into an extension.

True everywhere, stated once
Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.

Getting stone into a Hither Green kitchen
Long straight residential streets with permit parking and no off-street spaces, but most houses have a side alley or shared passage to the rear which is often the better route into an extension.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Hither Green
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Hither Green on your patch?
Yes. Hither Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE13, SE12. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop installation in Hither Green be any different from anywhere else?
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Repeating house types make it predictable, but those side passages are typically under 800mm — measure before assuming a slab goes round the back.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Hither Green?
Long straight residential streets with permit parking and no off-street spaces, but most houses have a side alley or shared passage to the rear which is often the better route into an extension. Garden routes carry their own hazards: a drain cover, a step up to a patio, wet decking, or a lawn that will not take a loaded trolley. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Hither Green mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop templating and worktop fabrication. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. One visit, done properly. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Hither Green?
A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the laser plots the intermediate points. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. It is the slow part of the day and it should be. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. One visit, our own installers.
