Worktop installation in Lampton
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Lampton kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
1930s semis where the kitchen has been pushed out into a rear conservatory or a full-width extension. Family cooking, so double ovens, a long prep run against the back wall and often a peninsula rather than a full island.
Half-landings mean the back of the house sits at a slightly different level from the front, and a knocked-through kitchen crosses that line. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
What we are usually templating in is 1930s semi, Edwardian terrace and postwar infill. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the High Wycombe patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Lampton Road is a busy through route with controlled parking either side of it. Most houses have a drive, but it is usually already holding two cars.

What gets asked for here
This is the job the local stock asks for first, ahead of worktop replacement and worktop templating.

The building, and what it does to the job
Conservatory-style rear extensions here have low cill heights, so check the window board clash before you set an upstand height you cannot achieve.
Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond.
The hallway turn and the door width, which cap the longest single piece we can physically get to the kitchen regardless of what the run measures.

True everywhere, stated once
Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Lampton
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Lampton?
Yes. Lampton is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are TW3. It is run from the High Wycombe side, covering Buckinghamshire & Berkshire. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Lampton change how worktop installation works?
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Conservatory-style rear extensions here have low cill heights, so check the window board clash before you set an upstand height you cannot achieve.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Lampton?
Lampton Road is a busy through route with controlled parking either side of it. Most houses have a drive, but it is usually already holding two cars. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop installation the job you do most in Lampton?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop replacement and worktop templating. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. Why do two Lampton kitchens the same size price differently?
The free end is what needs deciding early: square edge, mitred apron down the end, or a full waterfall to the floor, and a waterfall is cut in sequence off the same part of the slab. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
