Worktop templating in South Ealing
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
South Ealing kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
Edwardian terraces with the standard side-return infill, producing a 5m single-wall galley plus a slim island, rooflights overhead and the run terminating at a set of bifolds.
South Ealing Road is a busy bus corridor with permit parking either side, and once the side return is built out the terraces have no side access left at all.
Where the side return has been filled in, the old external wall is now an internal one and still carries its render, its gutter line and its old fixings. The laser plots the bow along the back of the run, which is why a tape reading taken beforehand never matches. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What turns up on the job sheets is Edwardian terrace, Victorian terrace, 1930s semi and small modern block. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the High Wycombe patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause.

The building, and what it does to the job
With the return infilled there is no route to the garden, so the slab either goes in before the bifold doors are hung or it does not go in.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop installation comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Questions
Worktop templating in South Ealing
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover South Ealing?
Yes. South Ealing is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W5. It is run from the High Wycombe side, covering Buckinghamshire & Berkshire. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in South Ealing change how worktop templating works?
A long piece has to come through the front door, down the hall, round the newel post and through a doorway with a step down into the addition. Victorian party walls and chimney-breast returns bow along their length, so the template plots the real line rather than assuming a straight one - the laser picks up points every few hundred millimetres down the back of the run and the drawing carries that curve through to the saw. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. With the return infilled there is no route to the garden, so the slab either goes in before the bifold doors are hung or it does not go in.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in South Ealing?
South Ealing Road is a busy bus corridor with permit parking either side, and once the side return is built out the terraces have no side access left at all. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop templating common in South Ealing?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
Why do two South Ealing kitchens the same size price differently?
A galley run down a side-return extension usually measures longer than a slab will give in one length, so a join is designed in from the start rather than discovered. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. The drawing leaves site complete. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. No stone is cut from a plan.
