The sink, tap and hob have to be physically in the room at the template, not merely ordered, because the cut-out is machined to the item itself. The tap hole is drilled in the workshop too, and its position depends on how far the tap has to swing. A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. The shape is already there to be measured, which makes the template straightforward and leaves the strip-out as the part that actually needs planning. Laminate hides what the gables are really doing.
