Worktop installation in Waddon
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Waddon kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. The route is walked before the first lift.
Mostly inter-war semis with a square-ish rear kitchen and a side passage, where the usual upgrade is knocking through to the dining room for an L-shaped kitchen with a peninsula.
Newer flats near Purley Way have small developer-spec galleys. Good vehicle access with driveways on most residential roads, though anything near Purley Way means retail traffic and awkward turns in and out.
The chimney breast in the corner has usually been left in place, so the run gains a return and two scribed ends. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
What we are usually templating in is 1930s semi, inter-war estate housing, post-war terrace and modern flats off Purley Way. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
Getting stone into the room
Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. We would rather ask than guess.
1930s and inter-war semis
The building, and what it does to the job
Knocking a semi's kitchen into the dining room leaves a downstand beam and a floor level change at the threshold, so the run has to be set out from the new opening and not the old wall.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop replacement and worktop templating behind it.
Access
Getting stone into a Waddon kitchen
Good vehicle access with driveways on most residential roads, though anything near Purley Way means retail traffic and awkward turns in and out.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Waddon
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Waddon, or just list it?
Yes. Waddon is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are CR0. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Waddon?
These kitchens have been retiled at least twice, and stripping the tiles takes the bottom band of plaster with them because the old laminate ran underneath rather than up to them. The carry is the easy part; the plaster around the old breast and the packing over a moved floor are not. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Knocking a semi's kitchen into the dining room leaves a downstand beam and a floor level change at the threshold, so the run has to be set out from the new opening and not the old wall.
Is access a problem in Waddon?
Good vehicle access with driveways on most residential roads, though anything near Purley Way means retail traffic and awkward turns in and out. A side gate and a back door mean the stone never goes through the house at all, which keeps the dust and most of the risk outside. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. None of it is worked out on the doorstep. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop installation the job you do most in Waddon?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop replacement and worktop templating. Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional.
What decides the price of a worktop in Waddon?
Where the return runs into a wall that is out of square, the corner is templated as the angle it really is rather than as ninety degrees. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Floors settle, and once base units are packed and levelled properly the stone sits true while everything else in the room admits it is not. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Eased in, never forced. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. Consent for the work sits with the freeholder or the managing body, and getting it in writing first avoids a crew arriving to a locked door. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
