Yes. Bethnal Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E2. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets. Some zones are controlled for a short window in the middle of the day and open either side of it, which makes the timing of the visit the whole question. It rarely changes what we cut, but it does change how the pieces are stacked and strapped for the run out. The yard reads the access note before it racks anything. The work comes to you. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, with nothing to visit or collect.

Ceilings in the addition are lower than in the front rooms, so the band of wall between the worktop and the wall units is shorter than the rest of the house suggests. The galley run down a side-return usually measures longer than a slab will give us, so a join is designed in from the start and nested to land over a cabinet gable rather than wherever the material happens to run out. A century of movement is taken out at the bench. A room can be out of square in both directions at once, so the wall that leans is also the wall that runs downhill, and one scribe cannot answer both. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. The casing gets plotted. The steel inside it does not.

A window sill or a radiator on the half-landing takes the corner out of the turn at precisely the point the piece needs that corner. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. Once the cut-outs are machined there is no going back on it. A suspension only works if the cones and the notice are actually there on the morning, and now and then a car is sitting in the bay regardless. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. One movement off the van starts with how it went on.

Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement and worktop installation. That is a point about the buildings round here, not about the job. The quoting, the cutting and the fitting are identical here to anywhere else we work. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Plot two has to match plot nine. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Quartz reorders in five years, a granite block does not.

Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. A waterfall leg is cut in sequence off its own top. The stone is £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted separately.

Plaster thickness varies over the height of a wall, so the line at worktop height is not the line at skirting level, and the units decide which one matters. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. The piece is nested around the scribe, not despite it. The sink and hob need to be on site and the run layout fixed before we start cutting, because moving a hob after the join position is set means recutting the whole piece. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. One batch wherever the specification repeats.

If the sink or hob changes after the template, the drawing changes first and nothing is cut meanwhile. A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. The walkway between the two runs is fixed by the units either side, so any overhang added to one worktop comes straight off the space somebody has to stand in. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. Cut-outs are machined with the piece bedded down.

A full-height piece behind the hob has to allow for the extractor, so that gets settled first. An upstand covers the gap where the worktop meets a wall that is not flat, which is its real job. An upstand is a slim strip that follows the worktop up the wall; a full-height splashback runs from the worktop to the underside of the wall units. The meters sit in the hall or under the stairs on the way through, so the carry passes a cupboard door that has to be shut and protected before anything moves. The other constraint is the hall: a piece has to come through the front door, round the newel at the foot of the stairs and through a doorway into the back kitchen, so we size the pieces to the tightest turn on that route before we nest anything, which sometimes means splitting a run that would otherwise have gone in whole. Cut-outs are placed where the fabric will take them.

The design and quotation visit is free and carries no obligation, so a figure exists before any commitment. Two kitchens the same length can be far apart, because material, edge and cut-outs move independently of size. The quote is written from the template drawing. Before that it works from what you have described. Two walls each a degree out give an internal corner two degrees out, and the whole of that error lands in the mitre. The workshop cuts to the plotted line rather than to a nominal dimension, which is why a scribe edge leaves the bench deliberately oversize. Nothing leaves the bench expecting a square wall.

The fit follows 5 to 10 working days after the template, and nothing is cut before that visit because nothing is cut from a plan. If the units run late the template moves, not the fit: the gap between them is fabrication. Chimney breasts and the alcoves either side of them break the run into short pieces before anyone has drawn a kitchen. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Nothing is machined until the drawing matches the building.
