Bay bookings are usually an hour or two, which is fine for unloading and no use at all as a place to leave the van for a day. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. That is the last thing settled before dispatch. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. Loaded for the carry, not for the van.

Not really, and claiming otherwise would cost nothing and mean nothing. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop installation and worktop replacement. It reflects the local housing rather than any difference in the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted here the same way it is anywhere else on the patch. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Quartz reorders in five years, a granite block does not. With three walls in play the chance of one of them being out of square is high, and the template has to carry all three angles. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. The return is nested first, because it fits worst. Supply-only material is £110 to £550 per square metre, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted separately rather than rolled in.

Where a partition has been built off the floor screed rather than off the slab, it moves, and a mitre bonded across that corner is the first thing to open. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. Geometry first, then the saw. Sink, tap and hob need to be with us before machining, along with confirmation of whether the island is getting a breakfast overhang, since anything past roughly 300mm unsupported needs steel let into the carcasses and that has to be built in, not added later. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. Cutouts are checked against the actual appliances, whoever bought them.

If you want the old top kept for a garage or a utility, say so and it stays on site. Old laminate is light and awkward rather than heavy, so it is usually the easier half of the day. The template can be taken with the old top still down, which is why one visit covers both. Where the bay sits some distance from the core, the carry across the car park is the longest leg of the day and gets boarded and lit. Where the carry is long the pieces are strapped for handling rather than for the shortest route off the tail lift. The strapping answers to the walk, not the drive.

Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door. Stone cannot be filled and made good the way laminate can, so a damaged piece is remade rather than patched. A remake goes back through the same cutting and polishing, so it is a return visit rather than a patch. Where a basement car park is the only way up from the parking level the carry starts below ground, and two lifts in one building rarely share the same internal dimensions. Getting that wrong leaves a finished, machined piece that cannot reach the room, which is a remake rather than a trim. The longest piece is capped in the workshop, deliberately.

The template is taken in your kitchen after the units are in and fixed, never before. On the fitting day floors and door frames are protected, joins clamped flush, sink and hob sealed. No money changes hands before the template. Everything arrives through one controlled entrance with a booking sheet, and a delivery that misses its slot waits. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. The awkward corner is cut first, while the slab is whole.

Machining is permanent. If a later kitchen moves the sink, the grooves stay where they were cut. Grooves are machined in the workshop at the same time as the bowl cut-out, because they cannot be done well in a kitchen. Underfloor heating in a screed rules out fixing into the floor and rules out standing anything heavy on a single point. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. Vein direction is chosen across the joins, not within a piece.
