Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. Handling counts are decided here, not on the pavement.

The sink and hob need to be on site and the run layout fixed before we start cutting, because moving a hob after the join position is set means recutting the whole piece. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. Changes cost a piece, not a tweak.

Old tops are screwed or glued from underneath, so the drawer boxes come out before the worktop does. If you want the old top kept for a garage or a utility, say so and it stays on site. Old laminate is light and awkward rather than heavy, so it is usually the easier half of the day. The van is not staying on a main road for the day, so once the stone is off it goes and parks properly somewhere else. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. Two trips off the van means two chances to catch a corner.

Nothing is cut out in the kitchen. Cutting a bowl on site is how worktops get cracked. A sit-on sink and an undermounted one are different cut-outs, so which it is gets settled before the template. Two bowls means two cut-outs and a bridge of stone between them, which decides where the sink can go. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. The saw follows the nest, not the floor plan.

The template is taken in your kitchen after the units are in and fixed, never before. Nothing is measured until the sink, the tap and the hob are in the room to measure against. The same firm templates and fits. Nobody else is brought in to install. Where the walls have been dry-lined over the old lath there is a void behind the board and no solid fixing until a batten is found. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Mitres are dry-assembled before the polisher touches them.

Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join whatever the room looks like. A join is glued and clamped flush on the day, so it is fixed rather than something to be undone. A join sits over a cabinet gable. It never spans a gap and never runs through a cut-out. An aisle under a metre stops being a working space the moment two people are in it, and the depth of the tops either side is what decides whether that happens. Every piece is drawn onto the slab before anything is cut, so the veining and the join positions are decided together rather than one after the other. Book-matched pieces are cut adjacent or not at all.
