Fulham Reach kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Plasterboard partitions mean light scribes and clean joins, and the fabrication effort moves to the visible faces instead. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. Sound carcasses are the one condition.
Developer kitchens throughout, so you are usually working to a fixed footprint - a run of 3-3.6m against a service wall plus an island of around 2.2m, all sitting over pre-routed services that cannot move.
Upgrades from the original composite tops to full-slab quartz or Dekton are the bread and butter, and the sink cut-out has to match the existing undermount position exactly. Managed estate with a concierge desk, contractor sign-in, insurance checks and a booked goods lift that has to be protected before use. There is a basement car park with a height barrier and a loading bay, and once out of the lift the corridors are long and carpeted, so boards go down before anything is wheeled. Everything is fixed by the developer's services, so this is a precision replacement job - measure the existing undermount and drainage grooves, do not redesign them.
The room is genuinely square and the units are plumb, so the visit is more about the building than about the kitchen. Housings set out for a 38mm laminate change clearance when you drop to 20mm or 30mm stone, and that is checked before cutting. Units kept, surface changed, one day.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to 2010s riverside apartment block, wharf and distillery site redevelopment, concierge tower and riverside townhouse. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop templating and worktop installation behind it.

Getting stone into the room
Where the parking court sits behind the block the carry crosses open ground and gets boarded, because loaded trolleys and block paving do not agree. Worth remembering that the old tops have to come out the way the new ones come in, and a laminate run is easier to remove in one length than to carry in one. It sets what the day actually looks like.

Getting stone into a Fulham Reach kitchen
Managed estate with a concierge desk, contractor sign-in, insurance checks and a booked goods lift that has to be protected before use. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Fulham Reach
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Fulham Reach on your patch?
Yes. Fulham Reach is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W6. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham. Bay bookings are usually an hour or two, which is fine for unloading and no use at all as a place to leave the van for a day. A replacement is a two-way job, with old tops going out and new stone coming in, so the van needs to stay put across the whole day. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop replacement in Fulham Reach be any different from anywhere else?
The room is genuinely square and the units are plumb, so the visit is more about the building than about the kitchen. Housings set out for a 38mm laminate change clearance when you drop to 20mm or 30mm stone, and that is checked before cutting. What is under the old top is the real question. Everything is fixed by the developer's services, so this is a precision replacement job - measure the existing undermount and drainage grooves, do not redesign them.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Fulham Reach?
Managed estate with a concierge desk, contractor sign-in, insurance checks and a booked goods lift that has to be protected before use. There is a basement car park with a height barrier and a loading bay, and once out of the lift the corridors are long and carpeted, so boards go down before anything is wheeled. The barrier, the entry code and the estate rules decide when a van can get near the door, and none of that is negotiable on the day. With no room to turn, the old top gets cut up in the kitchen instead, which is dusty work and needs the room emptied first. It sets what the day actually looks like.
Is Fulham Reach mostly worktop replacement work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop templating and worktop installation. Housings and integrated appliances are set out for a 38mm laminate top, so dropping to 20mm or 30mm stone changes the clearances and needs checking before anything is cut. Old tops out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon. Sound carcasses or it does not go ahead. Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. The carcasses have to be sound, because stone is several times the weight of what is coming off. A day, not a project.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. Going from a 38mm laminate to 20mm or 30mm stone drops the surface, which shows against tiles, a window board and any freestanding appliance. The units stay, the surface changes. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Fulham Reach?
Where a partition has been built off the floor screed rather than off the slab, it moves, and a mitre bonded across that corner is the first thing to open. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. The laminate has been covering it up. Book the service lift, loading bay and concierge access for the full day, and confirm the building's permitted working hours in writing. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A replacement keeps the units and changes the surface, which is the least disruptive way to do this in an occupied property. Sound carcasses are the condition.
