Gidea Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
Beyond the suburb, the 1930s detached houses take conventional island layouts with runs of 3.5m or more.
The Garden Suburb houses are architecturally distinctive and largely conservation-protected, so kitchens are remodelled within the original service wing rather than blown out into big glazed boxes, and clients tend to want painted in-frame units with a warm-toned stone rather than anything stark.
The kitchen is usually a rear room extended into the garden, with the original external wall now standing inside the run. Where a full length can come down the side and in at the back, the nest follows the slab instead of the building. The bench proves it before the van moves.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1911 Romford Garden Suburb Arts and Crafts house, 1920s-1930s detached and inter-war semi. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
period detached houses and villas
Getting stone into the room
Leafy roads with long front drives and mature planting, so the van gets on the plot but the carry from drive to door is longer than average and often over gravel.
Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. The load plan follows from it.

The building, and what it does to the job
Original houses here have thick, irregular walls and out-of-square corners, so we template every wall run individually instead of assuming parallel sides.

Second or third on the list around here, after worktop design & quotation. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

True everywhere, stated once
Fabrication is where access quietly becomes a design decision. How the stone reaches the room decides how big each piece can be, and therefore how many joins the kitchen ends up with.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop fabrication in Gidea Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Gidea Park, or just list it?
Yes. Gidea Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are RM2. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Havering. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. It is decided in the yard, not at the kerb. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop fabrication in Gidea Park?
Houses of this period came with generous garages and utility rooms, so a second short run of stone is often part of the same job. What does drive the bench work is the knocked-through kitchen-diner: the return worktop and any peninsula are seen end-on from the dining side, so we nest the pieces so the veining carries across the internal corner in the same direction rather than turning through ninety degrees. The bench proves it before the van moves. Original houses here have thick, irregular walls and out-of-square corners, so we template every wall run individually instead of assuming parallel sides.
Is access a problem in Gidea Park?
Leafy roads with long front drives and mature planting, so the van gets on the plot but the carry from drive to door is longer than average and often over gravel. Where the van stands level with the front of the house a piece gets handled twice instead of five times, and stone breaks on handling rather than on the road. The maximum piece length is fixed at drawing stage and every join is placed over a cabinet gable from there. It is settled on the bench, not on site.
Is worktop fabrication common in Gidea Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Nested for the job in front of us. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Proven on the bench before dispatch.
What decides the price of a worktop in Gidea Park?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
The stone carries the scribe because the wall cannot be persuaded, so back edges are cut oversize and eased in rather than dropped straight down. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. Radiused, polished, and clear of the joins. The peninsula end detail needs deciding up front - square edge, mitred apron down the end, or a full waterfall - because a waterfall end has to be cut in sequence off the same part of the slab as the top. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. The approved drawing is the instruction.
