Lee kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. One visit, our own installers.
Mixed, terraced roads are permit-parked and narrow, the villa streets have off-street parking and wide gates, and the South Circular makes stopping anywhere near Lee Green awkward. Side returns are the common project. The Lee Green and Lee High Road terraces have the standard back-addition kitchen, but the streets toward Manor House have larger detached and semi-detached houses where the kitchen has usually been extended into the garden for a 4m run plus island.
Where the side return has been filled in, the old external wall is now an internal one and still carries its render, its gutter line and its old fixings. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
The mix here is Victorian terrace, large Victorian villa, 1930s semi and postwar infill. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Side-return extensions here often leave a long unsupported run past a bifold opening, confirm there's a support leg or return before cutting.
The hallway turn and the door width, which cap the longest single piece we can physically get to the kitchen regardless of what the run measures.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop templating and worktop design & quotation behind it.

Getting stone into the room
Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. We would rather ask than guess.

Getting stone into a Lee kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Lee
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Lee on your patch?
Yes. Lee is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE12. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Lewisham. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop installation in Lee be any different from anywhere else?
Where the side return has been filled in, the old external wall is now an internal one and still carries its render, its gutter line and its old fixings. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Side-return extensions here often leave a long unsupported run past a bifold opening, confirm there's a support leg or return before cutting.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Lee?
Mixed, terraced roads are permit-parked and narrow, the villa streets have off-street parking and wide gates, and the South Circular makes stopping anywhere near Lee Green awkward. The side passage is the measurement that matters, because a piece has to be carried flat down it and then turned in at the back door, and the turn is always tighter than the passage. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is Lee mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop templating and worktop design & quotation. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. The join is the last thing finished. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Lee?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Eased in, never forced. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
