Perivale kitchens
The buildings and streets around Perivale
Nothing about bathroom worktop fitting in Perivale is decided by us alone, since the units, the walls and the way you get through the door all get a say. 1930s semis with rear kitchens and side additions, plus apartments in the converted Deco factory buildings where the kitchen is a straight run with a peninsula in an open-plan space. Ask for the design and quotation visit. It is free, it carries no obligation, and it settles all of this properly.
The original openings were sized for goods, but the residential doors dropped into them were not. For a vanity the length is rarely the argument, because it is the depth and what has to be drilled through it that set the piece. The bridge of stone behind the basin is the part that matters.
Ceilings are high and there are usually no wall units, so a splashback runs to whatever height is decided rather than to a cupboard. That makes the template straightforward and moves the work onto the services, which run exposed or in boxing along a wall and get notched round rather than cut back. Stud partitions want noggins before a wall-hung unit goes up.
The housing behind these kitchens is 1930s semi, Art Deco industrial conversion, interwar terrace and postwar infill. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Bathroom worktops and vanity tops, in short
- Standard vanity depths are far narrower than a kitchen run, so most tops come out of offcut stock.
- Undermount basins are bonded and the aperture is polished, because the cut edge is visible from above.
- Tap holes are drilled to the tap you have actually bought, not to a standard spacing.
- We seat and seal the basin. A plumber connects the water and waste.

The place
Why Perivale is its own job
The survey in Perivale is looking at the route and the walls at least as hard as it is looking at the run itself. Western Avenue runs straight through with limited turnings, so overshooting means a long loop. Residential streets have drives, but the converted-factory apartments need lift booking and residents' permits. The Deco conversions have deep window reveals and non-standard ceiling heights, so set the splashback height off the actual reveal rather than the architect's drawing. The workshop cuts to the template, not to the kitchen designer's drawing, because only one of those was taken in the room.
The work
What bathroom worktops involves
Tap holes are drilled to the tap that has been bought rather than to a standard spacing, so the tap has to be confirmed before machining starts. The basin and the tap have to be on site at the template, since the aperture comes off the maker's own template and the holes come off the tap. You are left with no tiled shelf and no grout line around the basin, which is the part of a bathroom that discolours first.
A bathroom is one visit sitting between two plumbing visits, and the sequence matters at least as much as the stone does. An undermount aperture is polished right round the cut edge, since you look straight down onto that edge every time the basin is used. A generous room allows a top longer than the unit beneath it, so any unsupported length is decided before the piece is cut. Seated and sealed by us, connected by your plumber.

The money
What it costs in Perivale
An undermount basin costs more than a countertop one, because the aperture has to be cut, polished and bonded rather than simply dropped through. A peninsula has a finished end and often an overhang, so it carries edge work a wall-side run never does. Thickness on its own can move the supply figure a long way inside the £110 to £550 range, and it changes the machining as well, which is why the two are never given as one number. You see what the window board and the shelving cost separately.

1930s and inter-war semis
The carry, and what it rules out
Blankets on the walls and a board on the floor go in before the first piece, because a scratched car becomes a bill from the managing agent long after the kitchen is finished. What the route really decides for a bathroom is the shelving and the window board, since long thin pieces are the ones that break when they are twisted round a turn. The bath is usually in the way before the doorway is.
1930s and inter-war semis
What Perivale asks for
This one sits outside the domestic mix entirely. That mix, locally, is worktop installation, worktop replacement and worktop splashbacks & upstands. Commercial pieces are drawn, cut and fitted exactly as a kitchen would be.
1930s and inter-war semis
Perivale in the housing figures
Across Perivale, the inter-war semi is the dominant house type. A short run leaves nowhere to hide a join. Newer flats give square walls and settled unit positions, which makes a vanity template short work. The figures set the expectation. The fitted unit sets the top.

Getting stone into a Perivale kitchen
Western Avenue runs straight through with limited turnings, so overshooting means a long loop. Residential streets have drives, but the converted-factory apartments need lift booking and residents' permits.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Questions we get asked in Perivale
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Perivale, or just list it?
Yes. Perivale is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are UB6. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Ealing. A shared-use bay allows a paid stay up to a set maximum, and that maximum is routinely shorter than the working day the job needs. A vanity fit is a short visit with one or two pieces in it, so the van stands only for as long as it takes to walk them in. A bay for twenty minutes is enough for a vanity. Both visits happen in your kitchen, the template and the fit, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What do the kitchens in Perivale do to bathroom worktops?
Windows are large industrial openings with deep sills, and a run finishing at one meets a reveal a full brick deep. Bathrooms in these buildings are pods built inside the shell, so the walls are new square studwork and the room was set out on paper rather than inherited. A bathroom over a kitchen has its waste run already decided. Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. Bathrooms carry the same problems in a smaller room, and a smaller room leaves a vanity nowhere to absorb them. The bridge between aperture and back edge is what a notch eats.
Do you have trouble getting long pieces into Perivale kitchens?
Lift doors close on a timer that takes no account of somebody holding a worktop, so a pair of hands stays on the buttons at each end. A vanity is the one piece of stone that route will not usually defeat, because a top cut to a standard unit depth weighs what one person can manage. Protection goes down the stairs as well as along the hall. Camera enforcement gives nobody the chance to explain, where an officer on foot at least sees a tail lift down and stone coming off it. Where the van cannot wait, the top, the shelves and the adhesive all come in on the first trip and the van goes. We arrive with the offcut pieces already labelled by room.
Does Perivale actually ask for bathroom worktops?
Honestly, no, though it would be easy to claim otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop installation, worktop replacement and worktop splashbacks & upstands. That says something about the housing round here, not about the work. Quote, cut and fit are the same here as on any other part of the patch. Extension budgets are usually well spent by the time the worktop is ordered, which is where the choice between quartz and a thinner sintered stone actually gets made. Work of that kind brings en-suites with it, and an en-suite vanity is a smaller piece again carrying exactly the same four operations. Small tops are where a slab finally gets fully used. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. A house divided into flats needs a vanity for each of them, and small repeated pieces are the one case where buying a whole slab makes sense. The vanity is the piece that makes a converted flat read finished.
What decides the price of a worktop in Perivale?
A breakfast bar on the outer side is an overhang like any other, and the support under it is sized for people leaning on the end rather than for the weight of the stone alone. That shape decides what is left on the slab when the kitchen has been cut, and what is left on the slab is where most vanity tops come from. A slab bought for a bathroom alone is mostly unused, and priced so. Material runs £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting each get their own line.
What do I need to sort out first?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. A vanity has no depth to lose, so where a kitchen run would take a ten millimetre scribe without noticing, a shallow top cannot spare it. A wall-hung unit is braced before it is asked to hold stone. Confirm what is behind the board where the unit hangs, and send the goods lift and door dimensions if the pieces include shelving. A landlord with several similar flats usually wants one specification repeated, so the material, the edge detail and the upstand height are recorded and reused rather than rechosen each time. Who is paying decides the material here more than anywhere else, because a vanity is small enough that an expensive stone stops being an expensive decision. Keys, dates and the basin should sit with the same person.
What if the base units are out of level?
The check comes before the measuring rather than after, because the whole drawing is set out from that plane. A sloping floor is not the problem. The plane the unit tops finish in is. Levelling belongs in the carcasses, on their own legs and packers. Sill height gets settled with the template on site, because it is one of the few dimensions nobody has measured before we arrive. The boxed soil stack in the corner is the usual version of it upstairs, and a top that notches round one loses depth exactly where the basin wanted it. Where the wall bows, the splash return is scribed to follow it.
How much upkeep is a stone worktop?
Bleach and limescale remover harm a polished finish rather than clean it, whichever material is on the units. Where a top takes wine, oil and lemon most days, the non-porous materials ask least of the household. Upkeep is settled when the slab is chosen, since it belongs to the material rather than the fabrication. Services run on the surface in these buildings, so conduit and pipework cross the wall behind the units and stand proud of it. Bathrooms in these are pods built inside the shell, so the walls are new square studwork and the vanity is drawn to a room that was set out on paper. High ceilings do nothing for a vanity, but the reveals do.
Can a damaged worktop be repaired in place?
The rest of the kitchen still goes in. One damaged piece does not hold up the pieces either side. Door frames and the stair route are protected too, since most contact happens on the way in. A remade piece is cut from the same slab run wherever the slab allows, because a replacement from another batch will not match across a join. A car will often hold more than its doors will admit, and it is the clear width between the door edges that a piece actually has to pass through. The exception is a double vanity, which is a kitchen length in bathroom width and behaves like a worktop from the tail lift onwards. A vanity top is lifted once and set down once.
Can you fit stone I have already bought for a Perivale kitchen?
If your own slab breaks there is no matching replacement to hand, and that is the real difference. Thickness has to be known before quoting, since it decides the edge, the cut-outs and what the units carry. The workmanship guarantee is the same either way. It does not extend to a material we did not supply. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. It usually means the bathroom is decided late, after the kitchen, and by then the offcut that would have suited it has gone. Several vanity tops off one slab run, or they will not match.
