Queen's Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. Two to three hours on site, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Uniform two-storey terraces where nearly every improved house has done the same thing: infill the side return and add a rear extension, producing a wide kitchen-diner with a 4m run along the party wall and a 2.4m island under a roof light. Marble-look quartz on the island with a separate utility in the old lean-to is the recurring brief.
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What turns up on the job sheets is late Victorian terrace, Edwardian terrace and small purpose-built block. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our north west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Conservation-area streets with no dropped kerbs and permit parking enforced all day, and side returns are built out, so almost every slab goes through the front door and along a narrow hall with a return at the stairs.

The building, and what it does to the job
Because the side return has been built over, there is no side access left on most of these houses, so hall width and the stair newel decide the maximum piece.
Walls that bow along their length are the normal condition rather than the exception, and a straight-cut back edge will show a shadow gap at one end and touch at the other. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Queen's Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Queen's Park on your patch?
Yes. Queen's Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW6, NW10. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Brent. Permit hours are what matters, not the permit itself, because a bay that frees up at six in the evening is no use for a template at ten. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Queen's Park be any different from anywhere else?
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. No stone is ever cut from a plan. Because the side return has been built over, there is no side access left on most of these houses, so hall width and the stair newel decide the maximum piece.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Queen's Park?
Conservation-area streets with no dropped kerbs and permit parking enforced all day, and side returns are built out, so almost every slab goes through the front door and along a narrow hall with a return at the stairs. Weight tells on a staircase more than anywhere else, because there is nowhere to set a piece down mid-flight and no way to change your grip once it is moving. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. The template records it along with everything else.
Is worktop templating common in Queen's Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Units fitted, fixed and level first. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Queen's Park?
A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
