On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. The join is the last thing finished. An intruding steel column, a brick pier or a downstand breaks a run that would otherwise have been one clean piece. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Confirm loading bay access and lift booking with the building's management, and clear any furniture from the mezzanine stairs or split-level approach. Where the owner is not local, the decisions happen remotely, so photographs and a clear itemised drawing carry more weight than a showroom visit ever would. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
