Old laminate is light and awkward rather than heavy, so it is usually the easier half of the day. The sink and hob are lifted out with the old top and kept aside if you are reusing them. Permit hours are what matters, not the permit itself, because a bay that frees up at six in the evening is no use for a template at ten. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. Mitres are cut as pairs, off one setting.

A groove set needs a clear stretch of worktop beside the bowl, so it competes with the run for length instead of being free surface. On a porous stone the grooved area is sealed with the rest, and it gets wet more than anything else. The kitchen is nearly always in a later rear or side extension, so half the room is a century older than the other half and the two meet mid-run. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. Slab yield falls when the runs stop being straight.
