On a street with no restrictions the constraint is other residents rather than a warden, so it is worth putting a cone or a car out early. It rarely changes what we cut, but it does change how the pieces are stacked and strapped for the run out. A long walk from the van earns heavier corner protection. Floor-to-ceiling glazing lights the worktop from one side all day, which shows every ripple in a polished surface and every gap at a scribe. Piece size is set by the lift car, not by the slab. A settled corner leaves the bench as a real angle. A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. The piece is nested around the scribe, not despite it.

The step and the gap at the car threshold catch a trolley wheel, so the piece comes off the trolley and goes in by hand. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. A join added for access is placed over a gable, never mid-span. A free-parking street with cars both sides can still leave the van forty metres away, and that distance is carry, not driving. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. The frame is filled back to front when the bay is booked short.

Not to any real extent, and it would be easy to imply it was. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement and worktop installation. A live soil stack cannot be chased back into the wall, so the depth it steals is permanent and the run is planned around it rather than through it. Internal corners are machined with a radius and polished, and kept well clear of any join or cut-out. Nothing leaves the bench expecting a square wall. Sink, tap and hob need to be with us before machining, along with confirmation of whether the island is getting a breakfast overhang, since anything past roughly 300mm unsupported needs steel let into the carcasses and that has to be built in, not added later. Two flats with an identical layout can want entirely different things from the same run of worktop, which is why the quote follows the run rather than the address. Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. An agent forwarding a drawing is not approving it.

The kitchen is usually part of the living space, so three edges are read from a sofa rather than from standing height at the sink. Old tops are screwed or glued from underneath, so the drawer boxes come out before the worktop does. If you want the old top kept for a garage or a utility, say so and it stays on site. The units are untouched. Only the top of them changes. Where the van can pull up level with the gate the pieces are handled the fewest times, which is what actually protects them. Where the carry is long the pieces are strapped for handling rather than for the shortest route off the tail lift. Handling counts are decided here, not on the pavement.

Dark and heavily veined stone shows a join more than a pale even one, which is worth knowing before the slab is picked. A mitred join at a corner is a different job from a butt join along a run, and they are not priced the same. Peninsulas frequently land on a lightweight partition or on units that were never fixed down, and stone needs proper support under it before it goes on. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. One setting serves both halves of a mitre.

Stone cannot be filled and made good the way laminate can, so a damaged piece is remade rather than patched. Damage found on the bench never leaves the workshop, and damage on the carry is remade under the same cover. The workmanship guarantee runs 5 years on every kitchen we fit. Where a basement car park is the only way up from the parking level the carry starts below ground, and two lifts in one building rarely share the same internal dimensions. Getting that wrong leaves a finished, machined piece that cannot reach the room, which is a remake rather than a trim. The drawing states a maximum length and the shop honours it.
