The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Isle of Dogs
Underfloor heating in a screed rules out fixing into the floor and rules out standing anything heavy on a single point. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. A twenty-year-old run is replaced to its own shape.
The peninsula has limited road access with congestion at the north end, and the internal roads are heavily bollarded around the docks, so routes are longer than they look. It is worth checking on the peninsula whether the address is a 1980s house or a modern tower, because they are completely different access jobs at the same postcode.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing lights the worktop from one side all day, which shows every ripple in a polished surface and every gap at a scribe. The lift is measured again for the new pieces, since the laminate went in flat and stone will not. The old top hid it; the new one will not.
The stock we template in here is 1980s LDDC dockside housing, 1990s dock warehouse conversion, 2010s onwards tower and post-war estate. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
Access. Older low-rise dockside houses have narrow front doors and a stair immediately behind them, while the towers need concierge-booked lifts.
There is nothing to visit in Isle of Dogs. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
