Nine Elms kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Services coming up through a floor slab mean the island cannot move to suit the stone, so the stone is cut to suit the island. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
Work here is upgrading a builder-grade top to stone or fitting out shell-and-core units rather than reconfiguring rooms. Almost entirely new-build apartment kitchens: handleless slab doors, an integrated appliance wall, and either a straight peninsula or a small island, all built to the developer's original dimensions. Get the goods lift internal dimensions in writing before cutting, because a 2.8m piece that will not stand up in the lift car has to be re-cut at the workshop, not on the loading bay. The lift diagonal, not the door, is what limits slab size. Every building is managed, loading bay booking, a service lift with a stated internal length, dock time limits and a site induction before anyone goes up.
Poured screed over steel decking can fall away across a long run, so level is checked across the whole room before anything is packed. These read as easy from the outside and rarely are. That is the shape of the day.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to 2010s and 2020s high-rise apartment and Converted power station and industrial building. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

The building, and what it does to the job
The flat's own doorway and any internal level change, which are usually tighter than the building's goods lift and easy to overlook.

The shape of the run
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into a Nine Elms kitchen
Every building is managed, loading bay booking, a service lift with a stated internal length, dock time limits and a site induction before anyone goes up. The lift diagonal, not the door, is what limits slab size.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Nine Elms
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Nine Elms?
Yes. Nine Elms is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW8, SW11. It is worked on our south west London run, along with the rest of Wandsworth. Where the bay sits some distance from the core, the carry across the car park is the longest leg of the day and gets boarded and lit. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Nine Elms change how worktop installation works?
Poured screed over steel decking can fall away across a long run, so level is checked across the whole room before anything is packed. These read as easy from the outside and rarely are. That is the shape of the day. Get the goods lift internal dimensions in writing before cutting, because a 2.8m piece that will not stand up in the lift car has to be re-cut at the workshop, not on the loading bay.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Nine Elms?
Every building is managed, loading bay booking, a service lift with a stated internal length, dock time limits and a site induction before anyone goes up. The lift diagonal, not the door, is what limits slab size. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. That is what the morning is planned around.
Do you do much worktop installation around Nine Elms?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave.
Why do two Nine Elms kitchens the same size price differently?
If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A deep scribe comes out of the nest, so how far the stone has to be relieved changes which part of the slab the piece is cut from. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Confirm loading bay access and lift booking with the building's management, and clear any furniture from the mezzanine stairs or split-level approach. Where the owner is not local, the decisions happen remotely, so photographs and a clear itemised drawing carry more weight than a showroom visit ever would. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Protection goes down first.
