Splashbacks and upstands in Perivale
Stone taken up the wall, cut from the same slab run as your worktop so the batch actually matches.
Perivale kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Services coming up through a floor slab mean the island cannot move to suit the stone, so the stone is cut to suit the island. What decides between a slim upstand and full-height stone is nearly always the wall rather than the taste. The wall decides, not the brochure.
1930s semis with rear kitchens and side additions, plus apartments in the converted Deco factory buildings where the kitchen is a straight run with a peninsula in an open-plan space.
Western Avenue runs straight through with limited turnings, so overshooting means a long loop. The Deco conversions have deep window reveals and non-standard ceiling heights, so set the splashback height off the actual reveal rather than the architect's drawing.
Steel columns and downstands land where the frame put them, which is frequently in the middle of what would otherwise be a clean run. Setting the panel proud on a subframe with a shadow gap reads as a detail; scribing to raw brick rarely does. Cut from the same slab run as the tops.
The buildings themselves are mostly 1930s semi, Art Deco industrial conversion, interwar terrace and postwar infill. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Splashbacks and upstands, in short
- Cut from the same slab run as the worktop, at the same time.
- Ordered later, from a different batch, the match is not reliable where the pieces meet.
- Socket and switch positions must be final before templating.
- The joint to the worktop is siliconed, never grouted.
Covered from the High Wycombe patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
The building, and what it does to the job
Old brickwork with recessed or blown mortar joints, which gives the stone nothing continuous to bear on and forces either a batten frame or a dubbed-out backing board.

Getting stone into the room
Residential streets have drives, but the converted-factory apartments need lift booking and residents' permits.
The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. Splashback panels are lighter than a worktop and far more awkward, because a tall thin piece has to be carried on edge and cannot be tilted to clear a turn. That is agreed at template, not on fitting day.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop installation. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Questions
Worktop splashbacks & upstands in Perivale
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Perivale on your patch?
Yes. Perivale is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are UB6. It is run from the High Wycombe side, covering Buckinghamshire & Berkshire. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. Panels come off the van in one trip where possible, since a tall piece handled repeatedly is a piece asking to be chipped. Handling is where these pieces get damaged. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop splashbacks & upstands in Perivale be any different from anywhere else?
The goods lift is generous and the flat entrance often is not, so the tightest point on the route is inside the flat rather than in the building. Exposed brick is the defining issue: the face is uneven by 10mm or more across a bay, so a stone splashback either scribes to it, which means the back of the panel has to be relieved, or it is deliberately set proud on a subframe with a shadow reveal all round. Decided before fabrication starts. The Deco conversions have deep window reveals and non-standard ceiling heights, so set the splashback height off the actual reveal rather than the architect's drawing.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Perivale?
Western Avenue runs straight through with limited turnings, so overshooting means a long loop. Residential streets have drives, but the converted-factory apartments need lift booking and residents' permits. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. It is usually the full-height panels rather than the tops that will not make the turn, and that only shows up when they arrive. That is agreed at template, not on fitting day. Do you do much worktop splashbacks & upstands around Perivale?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Ordered later from a different batch, the match is not reliable exactly where the pieces meet. Same batch, same run, same day. What moves the number on a quote around here?
Because a peninsula is seen from both sides, the underside of any overhang gets the same edge treatment as the top, which is easy to leave out of a spec. Long runs almost never take a single panel, so the joint positions want agreeing before anything is templated. Corners get their own pieces. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Perivale?
Sill height gets settled with the template on site, because it is one of the few dimensions nobody has measured before we arrive. It is usually what pushes a job towards a 100mm upstand instead of a full-height panel, because an upstand rides what a panel exposes. Scribed, dubbed out, or set proud. Pick one. Decide and build the backing method — scribe, subframe or board — before the template, because the templater is measuring to that face and not to the brick. Where the owner is not local, the decisions happen remotely, so photographs and a clear itemised drawing carry more weight than a showroom visit ever would. A 100mm upstand is the low-maintenance answer, and full-height stone is the one that has to be committed to early. Decided before fabrication, not after.
