Rainham kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the job is a day, and what makes it a difficult day is the building. Sound carcasses are the one condition.
Three layers in one place: a small historic village centre where kitchens are constrained and period-sensitive, inter-war and post-war family housing where the job is opening the kitchen into the dining room, and new riverside developments where compact open-plan kitchens get an early upgrade from the developer's laminate. Run lengths in the new-build flats are short, typically 2.4-3m in an L.
On the new riverside schemes the units are already fitted and level, so a replacement top is quick, the delay is always getting through the estate access control. The older village streets are narrow with limited parking, while the new developments have allocated bays, controlled access and sometimes barriers that need a code arranged in advance.
Lime plaster over rubble moves in and out enough that a single long panel will show a gap somewhere along its length. The old island top is frequently sitting on units that were never fixed down, which is fine for laminate and not for stone. Units kept, surface changed, one day.
What we are usually templating in is Georgian and older village core, 1930s semi, post-war council house and 2010s-2020s riverside new-build. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
This is the job the local stock asks for first, ahead of worktop templating and worktop installation.

The shape of the run
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. Going from a 38mm laminate to 20mm or 30mm stone drops the surface, which shows against tiles, a window board and any freestanding appliance. Carcasses have to be sound first.

Getting stone into a Rainham kitchen
The older village streets are narrow with limited parking, while the new developments have allocated bays, controlled access and sometimes barriers that need a code arranged in advance.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Rainham
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Rainham?
Yes. Rainham is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are RM13. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Havering. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. A replacement is a two-way job, with old tops going out and new stone coming in, so the van needs to stay put across the whole day. It is a full day at the kerb, not a delivery. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Rainham change how worktop replacement works?
On the new riverside schemes the units are already fitted and level, so a replacement top is quick, the delay is always getting through the estate access control.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Rainham?
The older village streets are narrow with limited parking, while the new developments have allocated bays, controlled access and sometimes barriers that need a code arranged in advance. The barrier, the entry code and the estate rules decide when a van can get near the door, and none of that is negotiable on the day. We plan the strip-out and the carry as one movement so the kitchen is only out of use for a single day. It sets what the day actually looks like.
Is worktop replacement the job you do most in Rainham?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop templating and worktop installation. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A plumber either side of us. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Old tops out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon. A day, not a project.
Why do two Rainham kitchens the same size price differently?
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. Going from a 38mm laminate to 20mm or 30mm stone drops the surface, which shows against tiles, a window board and any freestanding appliance. Carcasses have to be sound first. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a breast interrupts a long wall the join can often go there, so it reads as a natural break rather than a line in the middle of a worktop. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. The laminate has been covering it up. Have a fitter or joiner fix and level the island units beforehand, and get the sink, taps, hob and any range on site before templating so we cut to the actual appliances. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. If the carcasses are tired the honest answer is that stone will find that out, and it is better said before than after. Units kept, surface changed.
