Worktop templating in Wennington
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Wennington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
These are the multi-piece jobs, where vein direction across a join matters as much as the join itself. Two to three hours on site with a laser, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Work here is bespoke by necessity, with runs broken by structural piers and a freestanding cooker rather than a fitted hob in most cases. A tiny riverside village with a very small housing stock: older cottages and farm properties with thick walls, small windows and kitchens that were never planned as one room.
Lime plaster over rubble moves in and out enough that a single long panel will show a gap somewhere along its length. Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room, so the templater sets a single datum and works every run and the island off it rather than levelling each wall in isolation. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
The buildings themselves are mostly village cottage, farmhouse and scattered post-war detached. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Essex patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
period detached houses and villas
The building, and what it does to the job
Small, one-off rooms out here rarely have a single straight wall, so everything is templated in one visit and cut to that template only.

Getting stone into the room
No restrictions and easy standing outside most properties, but it is a long haul from anywhere and the approach roads are exposed and narrow in places.
The van gets close to the door and the stone comes off the tail lift onto a trolley, which is about the shortest carry we ever get. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. That is part of what the visit is for.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop fabrication and worktop installation behind it.
period detached houses and villas
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Questions
Worktop templating in Wennington
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Wennington?
Yes. Wennington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are RM13. It is run from the Essex side, covering Essex & East London. A free-parking street with cars both sides can still leave the van forty metres away, and that distance is carry, not driving. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Wennington change how worktop templating works?
Lime plaster over rubble moves in and out enough that a single long panel will show a gap somewhere along its length. Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room, so the templater sets a single datum and works every run and the island off it rather than levelling each wall in isolation. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Small, one-off rooms out here rarely have a single straight wall, so everything is templated in one visit and cut to that template only.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Wennington?
No restrictions and easy standing outside most properties, but it is a long haul from anywhere and the approach roads are exposed and narrow in places. Even an easy kerbside carry wants the pavement clear at the tail lift, because a three-metre piece on edge has a swing radius nobody expects until it is swinging. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Wennington mostly worktop templating work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop installation. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. The room as it is, not as it was drawn. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order.
Why do two Wennington kitchens the same size price differently?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A chimney breast left in place splits a wall into two alcoves, and the two are rarely the same width and rarely parallel to each other. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. All runs and the island carcass fixed down and levelled to one datum, with the sink, tap and hob on site - an island cannot be templated while it is still loose or sitting on packers. Where someone is living in the house through the work, the strip-out and the fit are planned so the kitchen is out of use for a day and not a week. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Appliances on site, not on order.
