Wimbledon Village kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Wide doors, generous rooms and somewhere to park mean the joins that go in are the ones we choose, not the ones the building forces. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. A single day, planned properly.
Islands of 3.2m and over are normal, and clients expect the same block of stone carried up the wall behind the hob.
Detached houses off the Common and up the hill run to full architect-drawn kitchens: a large centre island, a separate prep or pantry run, and often a second slab area in a utility or boot room. This is book-matching and mitred waterfall work, vein direction has to be agreed on the actual slab before cutting, because a mismatched island end is the one thing that gets rejected here.
A townhouse is tall and narrow with the kitchen at the bottom, so every piece goes down a staircase rather than along a hall. Any island overhang past about 300mm will not carry weight on the carcass alone, so flat steel bar or brackets have to be let into the units first, and that is agreed at template stage, not on fit day. What is under the old top is the real question.
On these streets the housing is Georgian cottage, Large Victorian villa, Arts and Crafts detached and Interwar gated detached. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered on our south west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
The High Street has loading bans through much of the day and there is effectively no on-street parking on the roads facing the Common. Many houses sit behind gravel drives with a wide but soft approach, and side gates are frequently too narrow for a slab, so the carry goes through the front door and down a hallway with a return.
Loading exemptions on red routes are narrow, time-limited and heavily camera-enforced, so we plan around them rather than relying on them. Waste is the part people forget: the old laminate or tired granite has to be walked back to the van and it does not get lighter. The waste run is planned, not improvised.

What gets asked for here
This is not the local speciality and there is no point saying otherwise: worktop design & quotation, worktop fabrication and worktop installation is what the housing here actually asks for. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way regardless.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Worktop replacement in Wimbledon Village
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Wimbledon Village on your patch?
Yes. Wimbledon Village is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW19. It is worked on our south west London run, along with the rest of Merton. Loading exemptions on red routes are narrow, time-limited and heavily camera-enforced, so we plan around them rather than relying on them. Waste is the part people forget: the old laminate or tired granite has to be walked back to the van and it does not get lighter. The waste run is planned, not improvised. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop replacement in Wimbledon Village be any different from anywhere else?
This is book-matching and mitred waterfall work, vein direction has to be agreed on the actual slab before cutting, because a mismatched island end is the one thing that gets rejected here.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Wimbledon Village?
The High Street has loading bans through much of the day and there is effectively no on-street parking on the roads facing the Common. Many houses sit behind gravel drives with a wide but soft approach, and side gates are frequently too narrow for a slab, so the carry goes through the front door and down a hallway with a return. Rear access usually lets us fit longer pieces whole, so the join count ends up decided by the slab rather than by the building. Worth remembering that the old tops have to come out the way the new ones come in, and a laminate run is easier to remove in one length than to carry in one. It sets what the day actually looks like.
Is Wimbledon Village really a worktop replacement area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop design & quotation, worktop fabrication and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The carcasses have to be sound, because stone is several times the weight of what is coming off. A plumber either side of us. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. Old laminate has often been holding a run square for years, and taking it off shows what the units were really doing. The units stay, the surface changes. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Wimbledon Village?
A chimney breast left in place splits a wall into two alcoves, and the two are rarely the same width and rarely parallel to each other. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. The laminate has been covering it up. Have a fitter or joiner fix and level the island units beforehand, and get the sink, taps, hob and any range on site before templating so we cut to the actual appliances. Where someone is living in the house through the work, the strip-out and the fit are planned so the kitchen is out of use for a day and not a week. A plumber disconnects before we arrive and reconnects after we leave, and that is worth booking early. Units kept, surface changed.
