Millwall kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
The lift car, the loading bay and the building manager decide the piece sizes here, not the slab. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Proven on the bench, then loaded.
Some larger units have been opened up, which produces one long run plus an island squeezed against a structural column.
Many buildings are gated with a single narrow lift and a step-up threshold at the lobby door. Blocks sit around the dock edge with restricted vehicle access to the water side, meaning the van parks at the road frontage and the slab is walked round the dock path. Waterside flats around the inner dock typically have a galley kitchen of 2.4m to 3m running off the hall, closed on both sides, with the living room kept for the dock view.
Open-plan living makes the kitchen furniture rather than utility, so the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab. Piece size is set by the lift car, not by the slab. Settled on the drawing, cut once.
The mix here is 1980s dock-edge low-rise, 1990s-2000s waterside apartment block and recent high-rise. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Structural columns in the middle of opened-up flats are common, and a top that has to notch round one needs the column dimensions taken at template, not from a plan.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop templating, worktop replacement and worktop installation come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

The shape of the run
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. The bench proves it before the van does.

Getting stone into a Millwall kitchen
Blocks sit around the dock edge with restricted vehicle access to the water side, meaning the van parks at the road frontage and the slab is walked round the dock path. Many buildings are gated with a single narrow lift and a step-up threshold at the lobby door.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop fabrication in Millwall
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Millwall?
Yes. Millwall is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E14. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Millwall change how worktop fabrication works?
These buildings have firm rules about what can be propped open, left in a lobby or carried through the residents entrance. We work to the internal depth of the car and the diagonal you can actually stand a piece up on with the doors closed, then nest to that, which routinely turns a two-piece kitchen into a three-piece one with an extra join over a gable. Settled on the drawing, cut once. Structural columns in the middle of opened-up flats are common, and a top that has to notch round one needs the column dimensions taken at template, not from a plan.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Millwall?
Blocks sit around the dock edge with restricted vehicle access to the water side, meaning the van parks at the road frontage and the slab is walked round the dock path. Many buildings are gated with a single narrow lift and a step-up threshold at the lobby door. A narrow entrance hall with a turn into the back of the house caps the longest piece we can physically get in, whatever the run itself measures. Getting that wrong leaves a finished, machined piece that cannot reach the room, which is a remake rather than a trim. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw.
Do you get much worktop fabrication work in Millwall?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop templating, worktop replacement and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Nested for the job in front of us. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Proven on the bench before dispatch.
Why do two Millwall kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
An intruding steel column, a brick pier or a downstand breaks a run that would otherwise have been one clean piece. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. Radiused, polished, and clear of the joins. Sink, tap and hob need to be with us before machining, along with confirmation of whether the island is getting a breakfast overhang, since anything past roughly 300mm unsupported needs steel let into the carcasses and that has to be built in, not added later. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. The approved drawing is the instruction.
