New Southgate kitchens
The kitchens we meet in New Southgate
Before we quote any of the worktop jobs in New Southgate we want to know what the kitchen actually is, because the answer changes more than the price. Small Victorian terraces with 2.4m rear kitchens sit next to newly built regeneration flats with open-plan kitchen-living rooms and an integrated appliance wall. The new-build work is nearly all upgrading from the developer's laminate without altering the layout, since the units and services are fixed. You will see the drawing before anything is machined, and if it is wrong on paper it gets changed on paper.
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. Hardness and toughness are separate properties, and the surface that laughs off a knife is often the one least willing to survive an unsupported corner. Heat tolerance is a property of the material, not a claim about it.
A two-up two-down has a kitchen that was never designed to be one, so the run is short, the ceiling is low and every millimetre of depth gets argued over. Ceilings are tall and the joinery is usually painted, which is the setting where a thirty millimetre edge looks right and a slim one reads as a saving somebody made. Side light flatters movement and wastes a flat colour.
The building types here are Victorian terrace, post-war council block and 2010s-2020s regeneration blocks. Which one you have changes the order of the day more than the design does.
