Worktop replacement in Grove Park
Taking out a tired laminate worktop and fitting stone on the units you already have, in a single day.
Grove Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A side passage and a back door mean the stone rarely has to come through the house, which changes the job more than most people expect. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. Stone is far heavier than what is coming off.
Interwar semis with a rear kitchen and separate dining room, plus a large slice of postwar estate housing with compact galleys. Extensions here are usually single-storey rear rather than side return, ending in a 3.5m run with a peninsula.
Driveway access means a full-length piece is usually deliverable — the constraint is the internal doorway, not the street.
There is usually a shared rear alley, and whether the gate onto it is unlocked decides whether long pieces come in from the back. The kitchen is normally the original back room with a later side-return or rear extension bolted on, and that helps us: most pieces can go down the side alley and in through the back door in one length, so we can avoid joins that a front-door route would force. Units kept, surface changed, one day.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s semi, interwar terrace, postwar estate and 1960s low-rise flats. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Suburban roads with drives and verges, though the railway and the Chinbrook end leave several dead-end streets with limited turning; parking is generally free and on-plot.
A drive that shelves towards the house needs the van chocked and the trolley controlled, since a loaded A-frame gathers speed quickly on a slope. Waste is the part people forget: the old laminate or tired granite has to be walked back to the van and it does not get lighter. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Grove Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Grove Park, or just list it?
Yes. Grove Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE12. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. A replacement is a two-way job, with old tops going out and new stone coming in, so the van needs to stay put across the whole day. The waste run is planned, not improvised. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop replacement in Grove Park?
There is usually a shared rear alley, and whether the gate onto it is unlocked decides whether long pieces come in from the back. The kitchen is normally the original back room with a later side-return or rear extension bolted on, and that helps us: most pieces can go down the side alley and in through the back door in one length, so we can avoid joins that a front-door route would force. Sound carcasses are the one condition. Driveway access means a full-length piece is usually deliverable — the constraint is the internal doorway, not the street.
Is access a problem in Grove Park?
Suburban roads with drives and verges, though the railway and the Chinbrook end leave several dead-end streets with limited turning; parking is generally free and on-plot. A short hard approach with no steps means a full-length piece can be walked in flat by two people rather than turned up on edge. With no room to turn, the old top gets cut up in the kitchen instead, which is dusty work and needs the room emptied first. That is agreed before a plumber is booked. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop replacement common in Grove Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Old tops out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon. A day, not a project. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A plumber either side of us.
What decides the price of a worktop in Grove Park?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. Old laminate has often been holding a run square for years, and taking it off shows what the units were really doing. Carcasses have to be sound first. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
A chimney breast left in place splits a wall into two alcoves, and the two are rarely the same width and rarely parallel to each other. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. Found at template, not on fit day. Unlock the side gate and clear the alley of bins, bikes and pots, and arrange a plumber for the sink and an electrician if the hob is hard-wired. These kitchens tend to be compact and reasonably square, so the fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines are a larger share of the total than the stone is. If the carcasses are tired the honest answer is that stone will find that out, and it is better said before than after. Units kept, surface changed.
