Stratford kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. Joins over gables, always.
New apartment kitchens dominate and are open-plan against a wall of the living space, 2.6m to 3.2m of run with integrated appliances and a slim breakfast bar; owners replace the developer laminate top for stone within a few years. The older terraces to the west still have back-addition galley kitchens of around 2.4m.
The recurring job is stripping out a builder-spec top in an occupied new flat, so dust control and a same-day sink swap matter as much as the stone. Around the centre almost everything is a managed development with basement loading bays, booked goods lifts and marshalled service yards, and events at the nearby venues bring road closures and event-day parking restrictions. The Victorian streets are CPZ-controlled with narrow bays and no forecourt.
The flat entrance door and the internal doorways are usually tighter than the communal stairs, which is the opposite of what most people assume. Pieces are sized to the tightest turn on the route before anything is nested to the slab. The bench proves it before the van moves.
On these streets the housing is Victorian terrace, 1960s-70s estate and 2012 onwards high-rise apartment. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
What gets asked for here
Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Same slab run, or it is not a match.
The research on this patch does not put this among the three commonest jobs. Worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands do. That changes how often we are here, not how the work is done.

True everywhere, stated once
Fabrication is where access quietly becomes a design decision. How the stone reaches the room decides how big each piece can be, and therefore how many joins the kitchen ends up with.

Getting stone into a Stratford kitchen
Around the centre almost everything is a managed development with basement loading bays, booked goods lifts and marshalled service yards, and events at the nearby venues bring road closures and event-day parking restrictions. The Victorian streets are CPZ-controlled with narrow bays and no forecourt.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop fabrication in Stratford
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Stratford, or just list it?
Yes. Stratford is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E15. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Newham. The practical answer is to check the fixture list before the date is offered, because a template slot lost to a road closure cannot be recovered that week. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. It is decided in the yard, not at the kerb. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop fabrication in Stratford?
Cornice, picture rails and deep skirting survive in converted rooms, so the run stands off the wall and the back edge follows the units rather than the plaster. The galley run down a side-return usually measures longer than a slab will give us, so a join is designed in from the start and nested to land over a cabinet gable rather than wherever the material happens to run out. The bench proves it before the van moves. The recurring job is stripping out a builder-spec top in an occupied new flat, so dust control and a same-day sink swap matter as much as the stone.
Is access a problem in Stratford?
Around the centre almost everything is a managed development with basement loading bays, booked goods lifts and marshalled service yards, and events at the nearby venues bring road closures and event-day parking restrictions. The Victorian streets are CPZ-controlled with narrow bays and no forecourt. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw.
Is Stratford really a worktop fabrication area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Proven on the bench before dispatch. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Nested for the job in front of us.
What decides the price of a worktop in Stratford?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. That is nested before any glass goes on the saw. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
The stone carries the scribe because the wall cannot be persuaded, so back edges are cut oversize and eased in rather than dropped straight down. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. Radiused, polished, and clear of the joins. The sink and hob need to be on site and the run layout fixed before we start cutting, because moving a hob after the join position is set means recutting the whole piece. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. The approved drawing is the instruction.
