Yes. A hilltop village of period cottages and substantial detached houses on large green-belt plots, where kitchens are usually the main living room of the house. Expect thick walls, low headroom in the older parts, ranges rather than built-in ovens, and islands built as freestanding furniture with a stone top rather than a run of fitted carcasses. Unrestricted does not mean empty, and a street that is clear at seven is usually full by nine. It rarely changes what we cut, but it does change how the pieces are stacked and strapped for the run out. Stacking order is a parking decision here.

An inward-opening door swinging back against the wall leaves less clear opening than the frame measures, and a storm porch in front of it is tighter again. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. Crates are sized to clear the same openings the stone does.

Worktop fabrication, in that order. Several units in one building are fitted out to the same drawing, so an error on that drawing is an error repeated in every flat. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Proven on the bench before dispatch. The lanes up to the village are steep and tight, so we work off a smaller vehicle for the final leg when the slab size allows it.

An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. Seams land over gables, never over a void. Where a corner is a couple of degrees off, a mitre cut to a theoretical ninety degrees opens on the wall side and there is no closing it afterwards. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. Upstands leave the bench in lengths, not as one run. Material is from £110 per square metre supply only, and the templating, the fabrication and the fitting are each quoted on their own line.

Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. One approval, one cut, one delivery. If we know the building when you book, the lift, the stair turn and any freeholder notice are worked into the day rather than found on it.

Take the old tops off yourself if you would rather, and the quote simply carries one line fewer. The sink and hob are lifted out with the old top and kept aside if you are reusing them. The template can be taken with the old top still down, which is why one visit covers both. A skip, a delivery lorry or a run of scaffolding takes the frontage the van needed, so the street is worth a look the day before rather than on the morning. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. The van is packed to suit the walk at the other end.

Plumbing, gas and electrical work are not in the figure, because we do not do them. Taking the old tops away is a line rather than an assumption, so it comes off if you do not want it. The stone carries the scribe because the wall cannot be persuaded, so back edges are cut oversize and eased in rather than dropped straight down. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. Radius first, polish second, joins nowhere near.

Undermount bowls are cut and polished in the workshop and dry-fitted to the stone on the bench before anything is loaded. Where the hob lands is set out against the units and the wall behind, not off the kitchen plan. A piece with a bowl and a hob cut into it is the fragile one, and it is handled accordingly. If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. One setting serves both halves of a mitre.

If the units run late the template moves, not the fit: the gap between them is fabrication. The template produces a drawing, and the workshop cuts to that drawing once you agree it. The same firm templates and fits. Nobody else is brought in to install. Ground floors fall away towards the garden across the whole footprint, so the units are packed up long before anything is measured for stone. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
