The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Northumberland Park
The original units were screwed to timber grounds set into the wall, and where those were torn out the plaster was patched rather than replaced. Height is set off the units and the hob, not off the tile line that was there before. Window reveals decide where the run of stone stops.
Estate access means deck walkways, communal doors on fob entry, and lifts that are small or out of service.
A maisonette puts the kitchen on one of two levels, so an internal staircase may be part of the route as well as the communal one. The stairwell half-landing is usually the tightest point on the whole route and it dictates the maximum piece. The age of the house sets the pace of it.
What we are measuring in, mostly, is post-war council block, 1960s low-rise estate, Victorian terrace and regeneration new-build. The template reads them differently even where the layout looks identical.
Access. Parking is on estate roads with resident bays and enforcement, and you often carry 60m or more from the van.
There is nothing to visit in Northumberland Park. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
