The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Telegraph Hill
Big rooms hide their falls, and the difference from one corner of a five metre floor to the other is measured in tens of millimetres. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. Same carcasses, straighter lines.
Some of the steepest streets in the borough, with houses set high above the pavement behind long flights of steps and railings; conservation-area frontages mean no dropped kerbs and permit-only parking.
A large villa has wide doors, a generous hall and somewhere to park, so the joins that go in are chosen for layout rather than forced by the route. A range that cannot be moved sets the clearances, and the flanking pieces are templated to it once the old top is out. Same units, straighter line, better surface.
The kinds of building we work in here are 1870s-1890s Victorian villa, Victorian terrace and conservation-area flat conversion. The template reads them differently even where the layout looks identical.
There is nothing to visit in Telegraph Hill. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
