The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Upper Clapton
A utility or boot room usually takes a second run of stone, templated with the kitchen and fitted after it. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. Dust extraction indoors, or the cut happens outside.
There is a door to the garden, a door to the hall and often a door to a utility, so the perimeter run is interrupted three times. Getting in is straightforward, so the day is spent dry-laying and scribing to walls that have never been straight. The building moved decades ago and the fit allows for it.
Most of what we quote on here is Victorian villa, Edwardian terrace, 1930s block and post-war estate. The age of the shell tells us more than the age of the kitchen does.
Access. The streets running down towards the Lea are long and narrow with permit parking both sides, and Upper Clapton Road is busy with buses. Divided villas have shared halls with several front doors and staircases that have been rebuilt more than once.
There is nothing to visit in Upper Clapton. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
