The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Bellingham
The original units were screwed to timber grounds set into the wall, and where those were torn out the plaster was patched rather than replaced. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the job is a day, and what makes it a difficult day is the building. A thicker top changes what clears the top drawer.
The larder recess and the original back-door position dictate the layout, and the sink almost always stays under the window.
Built-in stores and a fuel place beside the back door were standard, and one of them is usually still sitting in the corner of the kitchen. Unit legs are reset where they have bottomed out on the slab, since the old top hid the difference and stone will not. The fabric gets checked while it is open.
The houses and blocks behind these jobs are 1920s LCC cottage estate, postwar terrace and 1960s low-rise flats. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
Access. Wide estate roads with verges, on-plot parking at many houses and easy turning; rear access is by long shared garden paths rather than side passages.
There is nothing to visit in Bellingham. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
